I've had my PS2 for about two years and it's starting to wear down already. Two of my friends PS2s have already broken and I'm wondering if I should trade it in for an Xbox or a Gamecube. I'm leaning towards GC because it's only $150 and I can get Metroid Prime for free.
I hear you there. GC looks very promising, but... I must admit, I have nothing later than a playstation. Unless, of course, you count Gameboy Advance.
I know I will get flamed for it or whatever they call it because almost everyone here loves the ps2 like it's god, but I'm saying get Xbox. It is allot better than it was a year ago with the only thing people could insult was the only good game is halo. I have a gamecube, and there isn't going to be much happening unless theres some things I havn't heard. So far most of it's games are availible on all the other platforms and half the few it only has arn't that great. But the gamecube does have metroid prime, resident evils, and some other good stuff, so it depends on how many good games you want, or if your intent on just getting the few good games on Gamecube.
I believe you should get a Gamecube. They are awesome, and I haven't had any problem at all with them. They have some pretty decent games too (Metroid Prime, as you mentioned; Super Mario Sunshine; Eternal Darkness; Super Smash Bros. Melee; soon to be Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker; and some of the popular games that aren't licensed to Sony or Microsoft are getting ported to Gamecube; not to mention the upcoming exclusive Capcom games besides Resident Evil)

Oh yeah, And the Wavebird is awesome! =D

[edit] Oh yeah, they are also making an add-on for Gamecube that will play Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy Advance games! That's pretty impressive I must say [/edit]

isn't that where you hook up your gba advance with the cartridge in it and play it on your screen? I don't see why you'd want to play a larger version of gameboy games.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with stating your opinion. You don't have to put up with being "flamed."

it's happened allot when people say good things about the Xbox here.
I have had mine for a while, not a problem, well sometimes it takes a min to read the disk on start up, but thats just the cd drive, which can be replaced for little cost. I would get another ps2, GC just is a bad idea, the X-box is not a bad idea, but i would not get one. But truely the ball is in your corner. The best way to deside is think of the games that are on that system. Forget hardware specs for a min, because i doubt you have a 57" big screen with GOOD speakers(RCA is an example of not good) so the specs dont do much to you but reduce loading times which is not bad on any of the systems. Look at the game titles, and make sure you dont buy a system because you see a game for it you like then realize its out on another system, take your time, asking people will get you nowere. Everyone has there fav. system for whatever reason and will tell you its the best.

I think the XBox is just as fine as GameCube, but I've never seen either, so I'm not so sure people will agree with me either.

The only problem I have with Xbox is that crazy controler, but they do have good games and better graphics. I'm probably gonna go with a Gamecube though, or I might just get a new PS2, I put a lot of money into games.

Well in most aspects the X-box is better, about the only thing GC has going for it is nentindo making it and a few titles like metroid prime. If i had to pick between the 2 i would go with X-box.

Actually, the hardware capabilities are quite good to have better, of course I'm not inferring which system to buy by this. The reason behind this is the better the hardware, the better the software so it allows games to be better by having things such as better graphics which enchance the gameplay.

they no longer sell the controllers like that unless you buy one. They come with the S controller and sell those too. the only real problem with the gamecube is the idea for having smaller discs and that few companies are making games for it. It does have quality titles though, such as Eternal Darkness which is a main reason I bought it, Resident Evils, Metroid Prime, and a couple others.

The software in an X-box is really worse, its a windows based if im not mistaken which was one of the dreamcasts downfalls. The hardware is better, but the better hardware is mostly in making higher reselution graphics which most people cant even tell the diffrence in with there tvs.

Well, being as I've played all three consoles and medium tv's and sometimes a large one there is quite a visible differance. And may I ask how would the software in an Xbox be worse? I have found little flaws within the games itself, and I've never received a dirt disc error.

A glitch in the windows ruined my save game on tomb raider: the last revalation for DC, after 10 hours of play. I got so pissed off Ive never played it since.

I think your thinking of the attachment that lets you use your gameboy adv as a controller for the gamecube(or something like that.)

I love my gamecube, and ive used all three systems, and I love the gamecubes controls, while hard to get used to at first, after you know them its an awsome setup, with a really responsive set of controls.

I think PS2 has the games, XBox has the hardware, and Gamecube is like the all around system. I dunno i dont really play vid games that much except at my friends houses but i can tell you alot of gamecube games kick ass with multiplayer
