if enough people believe it, it becomes reality.

black belt, white belt.. "im almost lvl 10!!"

People teaching martial arts may be teaching authentic self defense techniques, but its too video-gamish.. its stupid.

If you choose to look at it that way. We had to learn katas(spelling please) and perform them at meetings. If we did them correctly we would get the next belt, demonstrating that we had learned and showed proficiency at new techniques.
I took Tae Kwon Do and left at dain 3, then after about 2 or 3 years I started Jeet Kun Do, which I'm still taking and have been taking for almost a year now. I don't go to enough classes though, I pay 50 bucks a month(Out of my wallet.) and only attend about once a week.

i take Wah Lum kung fu i think you could call it mantis style

No actually, I dont use any websites. I have actual written documentation I found in the old 1 story library down the road from my house and some I have bought in various places.
Jeet Kune Do is the style Bruce Lee *The legend* was famous for, although he was a great movie star he was an even better martial artist and teacher, I really want to study this.

My stepdad can hit a beercan with a 50 calibre black powder rifle from so far away i cant even see it.

Can he? Sounds like a pretty good racket, to me.

"See that beer can?"
"No."
"Good. (BLAM!) I just shot it. See that one 50 yards behind it?"
"No."
"(BLAM) I just shot that one, too. Wanna watch me hit a bird in the next state?"

Press Up. a b c a b c a b a b b then down and you unlock a new character with access to better skills.

Yes, the art of Choreography. Thats what quite a few martial art studios teach this days, granted that most others are legit. If you found a legit studio, grats. Your be a greatly skilled fighter (against people using the same fighting style)

You Americans are barbaric!! shooting a poor beer can.. I may not drink beer, but im still Canadian.. you must take care of the cans!! they are the precious vessels that carry the lifeblood of so many.

Your not a truely great martial artist until you can improvise.

what did he die from again? Unknown causes or from a brain injury caused by his own high pitched shrill?
I took Tae Kwon Do in high school (which is basically a big joke, but it works to learn the basics) I also took Judo, Tai Kickboxing, Ninjitsu (my personal favorite, though the instructor was not a very good teacher) as well as a bit of Kung Fu, Karate and more Ninjitsu from my father when I was younger.
I recommend ninjitsy to everyone here(if its legal where you live). It doesn't depend on how much money you have or how long you've been in the class, you advance when you feel you've learned enough to test for the next belt. Much better to earn the rank rather than to buy it.

Ya I took Tae Kwan Do when I was little, it's like you said, good for basics but they don't really teach you much. I think Choy Li Fut is the best martial art. It's not very popular because it's rather new(as far as kung fu goes) I think it was created in 1810 or something like that by Chan Heung. Choy Li Fut makes you use the body to strike so you have a lot more power in your strikes. It focuses mainly on stances at the beginning, the first two katas are mainly just stances with some strikes thrown in. It uses all five animal styles, snake(my favorite), tiger, dragon, leopard and crane. It focuses on "martial spirt" which is basicly the will to fight. Another thing that a lot of the instructors focus on is calling out, I don't like calling out that much but I'll usually call out on the last strike in a technique. It is kind of annoying when you hear "HAH HAH HAH SIC DIC". If you can find a school that teaches Choy Li Fut then I HIGHLY recomend that you take it, even though at my school it's a little expensive($1450 a year or you can break it into monthy payments, about $120 a month if you don't put any money down) you get one private lesson a week, where you learn all the stuff for the test, and you can go to group class any day except Sunday, group class just help you improve on the basics but doesn't go over techniques that you need for the next sash because all different ranks goto group class. The only problem is that they are renovating the outside of the building complex that my school is in and it makes it very hard to have classes since there is only a large mat and three private rooms.

Of course martial arts are impractical against other styles. I know this. It was a form of excersize and workout for I, my father, and my brother.

I can berely see it is what I meant, its not visible enough for me to hit it. Hes just got very good eye sight and hes an excellent shot.

Jeet Kun Do is more for show and flashy moves then real effectiveness. Try one of the arts that uses body weight against your oponent. Escrima is a nice one as well.

Were Americans, we love to hurt others, and besides, your Canadian and should know alcohol abuse is a good thing :P

Hey, I understand, my ninjitsu class was in a dance studio when I first started. At least your in a good place where they are rennovating and making it nicer. It sounds like a great martial art; everything I look for. I really appreciate martial arts that focus not only on the fighting. In ninjitsu we had exercise, meditation, techniques (and two-step sparring), class (we actually took notes and studied) then more meditation. It was really all encompassing.
By the way, is Leopard known as something else, I know the others, but I seem to recall leopard as a different one also (just like snake is also called 'baby dragon').

Breaking bones is the best way to find out if someone is Escrima
