Never had a problem with my PS2, never known a person who has had problems. The only problem I have is that DVD's are slightly less likely to work on my PS2 than they are on our DVD-Player(While the DVD-Player can play them even if they are severely scratched, the PS2 cannot). All systems are about equal when it comes to disk read problems. Some people get them, some don't. Good to be under warrenty. Even better to take good care of your system, and make sure the disks are clean when they go in. The games for PS2 are great(Way of the Samurai, FFX, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, Dead or Alive 3(Even the PlayStation 2 one sores your thumbs, by the by), Tekken Tag/Tekken 4, and I can go on and on). DOA2 is available for PS, DOA3 is not. The Xbox was the only system they believed could handle the graphics. Same for DOAX due out today, if you're into seeing the DOA girls jump around in bikinis while playing volleyball. The only thing that the Xbox has going for it is Halo, really. Its their trumph card, but it isn't anywhere near enough to compete with Sony. I don't know why "Only-has-Halo" thing became such a mantra for those who don't like Xbox. Did you miss the last 300 games to come out? Did you miss Splinter Cell, the most highly acclaimed game on any platform (and fastest seller, btw)? Blinx was also another highly praised game only on Xbox. Though it's not my cup of tea, millions of others like that flavor. There are tons of other loved games, but I thought I'd point out two that are exclusive to Xbox, and extremely popular. The control is, with a single word: Totally-and-utterly-HORRIBLE. In what way? I find the Xbox controller more solidly constructed, quieter, and more fluid than the other systems' controllers. It also comes in two different sizes, so those of you with miniature hands can quit kvetching already. I find either size much more comfortable to hold than the PS controls. They also feel a lot less like they're about to break if I pound on 'em. |

I love Sony. My advice? Don't chuck an extra 100 bucks out the window when you get the XBox(Sorry, I have to say it's nice too...a few games that are KICKING BUTT) What extra 100 bucks? The systems cost the same. Xbox even throws in two games. |

I know you mentioned you've tried lens cleaners already, but I've had good luck with the Maxell CD lens cleaner disc, the one with 6 separate bristles on the back. You might also need to run the lens cleaners through a couple times before you notice progress. I sent my mom out to get me one. j/k. She'd kick meh ass. I asked her to get me one, but if you have a mother you know she's good for screwing things up. She got me one that had two brushes =P. She spent 10 dollars on it so I diddn't want to say anything else. My friend said he had the same problem as me. He had eight brushes. I told him I had 2 brushes and it diddn't work but he said the 6 or 8 brushes, as you said, would work. how much did you pay for it and what chain of stores did you purchase yours? |

Controllers will last longer if you don't throw them against walls, eat them, drop them in water, drive over them in a car, or leave them in a trash compactor. Oh...... |

I rented Training Day, which is an excellent movie that I highly reccomend, and it made not one peep. Then I popped in Men of Honor and that [thing] hummed the whole time. Sony, quicky [messed] up and playing with our money. <font color=red>[Note from Nadrew: Please watch your language on the forums, thank you.]</font> |

The controller is simple, and has enough buttons to provide an array of different control elements. Two D-sticks, a D-pad, 4 standard buttons(X,Y,C,S), and 4 alternate buttons(L1,L2,R1,R2). Hehe you forgot L3 and R3 That can be accessed by pressing down the Analog sticks ^^... to much free time... way to much. |
Take a vacuum cleaner to the vents, suck all the dust out of it, mine does it too.

He had the hand-held one and i didn't so I took the Hoover, heh, and sucked those bad boys but nothing. I took the PS2 apart but still nothing. Thanks anyway. Nothing can clean those gunky bastards. |
I was getting my butt kicked in Halo and through the controller and the door, pounded it into the ground, and steped on it.IT still works.I got angry because it wouldnt break.

dude my PS2 does the same [doo-doo] when it did it for the first time i thought it was because of dust so i took it apart cleaned the [doo-doo] out of it and it still did it. i emailed sony and told them my problem and they told me to do what i had already did. my conclusion is PS2 is nice from the start but [doo-doo] for the long run

Why is everyone turning to Microsoft? Dont you know its ran by satan himself, Bill Gates? "Weee lets go buy an X-box so we can give Bill Gates more money!". Sooner or later, Bill Gates will have enough money to buy the world!

My point wasn't that the PS2 handles disc-reading better, but merely that I've rarely experienced or seen problems with that kind of stuff in PS2(And gamecube. Don't know anyone with Xbox im afraid). DOA2 is available for PS, DOA3 is not. The Xbox was the only system they believed could handle the graphics. Same for DOAX due out today, if you're into seeing the DOA girls jump around in bikinis while playing volleyball. Whoops, sorry. Must've bene tired when I typed that. I really don't play the DOA-series much. Except for the extra-ordinarily fluid movement that they've created(atleast compared to the Tekken line of games), I don't play it when im by myself. I don't know why "Only-has-Halo" thing became such a mantra for those who don't like Xbox. Did you miss the last 300 games to come out? Sorry, I don't have first hand experience in that department and I sort of went with what I had been able to look up. It seems like Splinter Cell is a good game as well, although I haven't heard of or looked into Blinx(neither of the two games are out in Denmark). Since I don't own one, nor know anyone with it, I just went with all the info I could find on the internet, and hearsay from friends. The control is, with a single word: Totally-and-utterly-HORRIBLE. Different people like different controller's, I guess =). I can't stand it, really. Don't really know anyone else who can, either(I managed to play DOA3 on Xbox in a Games store while I was buying some other things). Im pretty sure the controller was the large version, so mayby the miniuature version would fit my hands better, but it didn't seem very comfortable at all. The playstation controllers are actually very sturdy. I've dropped them on the floor, out the window(Really; dont ask), spilled liquid on them countless times(Well, not me. Other people, damn them!) and the only problem I've had is that one of the buttons on a controller I've had for almost 3 1/2 years is starting to get slightly sticky after someone spilled honey on it. I suppose I should really get to try the Xbox before saying things about it, but unfortunately I know no one who owns one! |
The only reason they made the smaller controller is that surveys showed that people with small hands could really hurt themselves with the fat xbox controller.
Top 4 responses upon seeing the xbox in the flesh: -Thanks. Now you've made my daughter cry -Can I drive it home? -Okay. I'll buy it. But their better be a stripper in their -Looks stupid. Like big fat american car. (Said with russian accent) |
Do you people abuse your systems? All of my video game systems and video games that were purchased new work perfectly. The only stuff that doesn't work I bought used, and it all works, just not perfectly.
|
What? It's fixed.. I just needed to spray some air-in-a-can (it's called "Duster") and it worked. All done. And this is like the second time it's ever done this to me.
-Chris (Prehaps I mistyped my previous message didn't make sense, so I'm going to replace it with "Woo. Dantom all the way!") |

I didn't do it for him, I did it for me. |
