Bored to hell .. (Looks out the window seeing all the early-birds go to school.) Any of yall like EarthBound by the way?

It's not the modem that does it, it's the ISP, I've never been kicked off because of my modem, actually I've only been disconnected a grand total of 4 times in the 4 years I've been using my "POS modem". And that was only because the ISP had to reboot, inwhich they emailed all the users months in advance, and were only down for 2 minutes.

i dont see how you got me beat in any area...

Look at the last line... he paid less than half of what you did for more than half of what you've got.

Actually, the realities of money settled in, and I decided to save a bit in order to pay rent next month. So here is what I ended up getting yesterday morning:

AMD 1.3Ghz
Eagletec motherboard
256MB RAM
30 GB HD
52x CDROM (I already have a burner)
Geforce 2 videocard with 64MB RAM
added an S3 Trio64/DX card (no cost) for second monitor (wide screen baby!)
USB 2.0 (two ports in front and two in back)
onboard sound, LAN, and modem
keyboard and wireless wheel-mouse
---Total: 357 Euro (about $357.63)

(no DVD because Ulrike just bought a DVD-MP3-VD console with Surround sound - and I could hook it up to the computer if I absolutely needed to - which I don't)

Runs RedHat 8.0 with the new KDE3 nicely, and looks like it will handle the BYOND hosting server just fine...

(And, once I install the latest WineX, I'll have access to a large majority of the PC games I like to play (Quake2/3, HalfLife, all the Star Trek games, and several flight and racing sims)

=)

I generally do not exagerate about things like that... over here the GeForce4 is about $300 (the lowest was about 289 I believe), but the small computer shop I visit frequently had a used GeForce 4 (apparently the previous owner was not happy with it, and traded it in for one of the newer Radeon cards) in a damaged box - and it had scratches on the circuit board in one corner. We plugged it into a test computer, it booted, installed the drivers ok, and ran GTA3 at 800x600 with no trouble. He offered me $75 for it as a part of the computer package price, but $75 is a month of groceries for me. I'll probably still get it next month, since the guy gets a lot of stuff in this condition - looks bad, but fully functional. I just don't need GeForce4 - Geforce 2 is good enough for me right now...

So I ended up with the setup that I posted early for 357 €... suits me perfectly!

Wow, the Euro is like right on the dollar! And, once you get WineX working please give a report on how well it works, I am very interested about getting a first hand report...the time to make the switch (and I don't mean to Apple)is coming sooner than I thought.

lucky you...but i bought everything for the computer the 1200 included a new mousepad cordless optical mouse the 5.1 speakers with subwoofer new printer and windows xp i think i got a decent price for how powerful my computer is.

I have a 433 AMD processor, with 128 megs of upgraded RAM (from 32), 4 gig HD space, with a nasty Windows error reporting only 3.4 gigs (somehow I still have Diablo 2, Age of Empires 2, AND Bauldur's Gate 2: SoA installed). I have a 36x CD-ROM, a $10 dollar K-Mart keyboard, a $30 dollar trackball with dual scroll wheels and 2 extra buttons. My monitor can handle up to 1024x768, and I don't have a 3D video card.

My computer was top-of-the-line 7 years ago.

Absolutely! With printer and cordless mouse, too? That's a good deal actually, with it being all-inclusive...

Is it a decent printer (hopefully not one of the cheapo Lexmarks, like the z13 which no one makes color Linux drivers for...*sniff* - I got one of those, and found that the ink was nearly as expensive (on a monthly basis) as the printer!

i dont know i dont print anything anyways...but im loving neverwinter nights battlefield 1942 and warcraft 3....*drools*

Just eat roman noodles (not from rome, but the packaged noodles thing), You'll only need to pay 5-15 dollars for a month.
