I can't speak for your case, but in general this tends to mean "I can't bear to think of two men interacting sexually". (For some reason two women seems to have the opposite effect!)

This is because of a natural tendency to think about sex when thinking about gays. But it actually has no more to do with homosexuality than finding it ginky to imagine sex with the weird old woman who crushes cans all day down the street has to do with heterosexuality. (Unless you are attracted to weird old women who crush cans..."and there's nothing wrong with that"...)

One of the reasons that people change their feelings/behavior upon exposure to gays is that it's only with exposure to the people/subject that people overcome thinking about it purely in terms of sex.

This is why, when certain people object to mention of a same sex partner on these forums, I point out that I'm no more talking about sex than they are when they happen to mention their parents. ("Don't talk about your parents -- to have parents means your parents had sex, and that's inappropriate to bring up in polite society!")

I thought about using this opportunity to mention the book Brave New World, but then I remembered what happened the last time we tried to discuss a classic work of dystopian literature on the forum...

The fact that this hasn't been and most likely won't be true for many other minority groups -- who people interact with regularly while maintaining bigoted attitudes -- also shows there may be something unique at work in this case.

It's called "flouride"... I guess you missed that meeting.

i can agree with some stuff you all are saying. I don't like the thought of gay sex (unless it's female, as you said), but that's how I am. I do resent most things that aren't what I think is normal, until I can be around them more. Actually, Dead, you did change my opinion on gays. At first I though the same stereotypical heterosexual thing about you, but now I respect you, and try to veer from use gay as a bad term. But in Lexy's case... well I've already been there. :P

erm, guys? I forgot the default forum font color, any help?
Stopping the hate, this is only a dream. As long as there are people on BYOND, there will always be hate between 2 or more people.

I got respected as a newbie, and I've respected other newbies myself. I think the people who fail to show that respect, though, are generally the ones who use derogatory terms like "newb" (or the atrocious leetspeak, "n00b"); they mistake being new for being an idiot, when the two are totally separate issues. (A person can of course be both.) Mostly I think this comes from a wrong-headed perspective that puts people on some kind of status ladder, so the type who treat newbies like they're nothing do so just to pretend they're on a higher rung. In fact people who do that are contemptible.

That statement marks the spot, when I get on TFC now(been playing for 2 years) I have people call me "n00b" still.... I don't say anything I just get a lot of kills and no more then 10 deaths usually, and I get spammed with "n00b" because I'm at the top of the score chart. Then on Ricochet, you have a 5 month old game, and people calling others "n00bs". So basically, this is nothing but a horrible trick to try to lower the self esteem of other players, its all done by getting 3+ internet friends to get on a server and call 1 person who is incredibly skilled
and try to make him/her feel worthless. To anger these raging morons, ignore them or if the game has a way to block chat from them, do so. Also, remember its just a game.

Well, I don't think of it purely in terms of sex, though that is a big factor. (If it's any defense, I feel awkward when *any* two people start kissing in public, or holding hands, or whatever. Male-female, male-male, female-female, etc., etc. -- it implies sex, and that's just a little more than I'd like to know regardless of gender and persuasion. I'm something of a hypocrite, too, given that I would probably flaunt a relationship.)

Anyway, whenever the word "heterosexual" or "homosexual" appears, I believe the conversation is talking mostly about sex. I slightly despise the thought of "homosexuality" -- that is, the act of being sexually involved with members of the same sex -- but I don't despise people who are attracted to members of the same sex (regardless of the inevitable result of that attraction, since I normally try not to think of it). I used to consider "gay" an insult, for example, but you and Lexy served to set me straight (pun not intended).

Typically, I don't think of either "heterosexual" or "homosexual" until it's brought up (at least, I think I don't) -- I normally just think of people as if they have differing or opposing opinions.

That's one of the many reasons I look up to you as something of a mentor... when I'm discussing theories of game design, for example, the fact that someone is gay or hetero doesn't even cross my mind. In your case, the only thing I'm thinking of is that you know far more in that field than I do.
