When new maps are generated, they fill in piece-by-piece... could it be better if you had another Z level that you assembled the map on, initialize SYNC_STEPS on all of the map pieces, and then move it all as one big unit to the main map? I think it wold make it altogether look better... and you could have some text that said "Generating Map..." while the map was being built down below.

They're not actually generated piece by piece by intent; on a faster system the map will appear much faster. On a system slow enough for this to be an issue, you're likely to see the same type of slowdown by transferring the map from one Z level to another.

Also, remember that SYNC_STEPS is only for glitz movement, nothing more; it would have no effect on anything in Incursion.
