I was just wondering what does it mean exactly to lock a splitter in a child? I'm toying around with it and it's really confusing me exactly what's going on.

well there's an option to not show the splitter when available which does just that: it doesn't allow you to move the splitter. That's why I'm confused as to what exactly locking it does. You can lock it to either the left/top pane of the child, or the right/bottom pane of the child.
