Well, graphic artists often work in a non-digital medium, such as print ads. Pixel artist (or digital graphic artist) specifies that the work is computer based. Specifically, pixel artists are associated with sprite work as opposed to broader graphic design.

Is there any real need for that level of specificity at all? If you just post a classified saying "I need an artist for my new BYOND game", do you think you're going to get any replies from oil painters?
