This is in response to my unanswered post about preload_rsc. I'm imagining in this situation that it is working fine, but for some reason it doesn't work for me.

Well looking at the problems with downloading resources in a large-scaled world and I was wondering how I would go about creating a patch feel.

My idea is to set this in the primary game.

client/preload_rsc=0 //Stop it from loading resources

Then in a separate DM file set this somewhere

client/preload_rsc="http://mywebsite.com/primary_game_rsc.zip"

So it would download the resources in an external environment for the game you are currently playing.

Now what I'm wondering is how I would go about checking for a save file I threw in with the resource zip file. I'd use that as a means of checking whether the player can log in to the game, or if they will be redirected to downloading the patch.

I would have no trouble actually putting the file in the resource zip. My problem would be setting up a check to detect this specific file from where it downloaded to.

Any ideas as to how I would go about looking for it? I really don't want players to have to unzip it in the correct location manually, I hate to say it but I would probably lose alot of incompetent players.
Kind of off topic, but what's up with your 'reevestirwin.dmi' file?

I'm assuming it's Steve Irwin after the stingray barb, which isn't cool man.

Oh it was just a temporary joke toward a friend, personally I find it hilarious.

Ha, I knew someone would catch feelings eventually, maybe we should spoof a different dead guy before we get shunned from the community.. Possibly the Cream of Wheat box man (http://www.comcast.net/news/strange/ index.jsp?cat=STRANGE&fn=/2007/06/15/ 690398.html&cvqh=wiw_creamofwheat)
