Ahoy Mates!
I am not announcing this project, So sit tight. I would just like some critics to make there opinions known on this screen shot, I have been playing around with the client screen and I think it has came out real nice. Sadly no I'm not, but only because I am a man of my word. Before the person that invited me here quit he asked me to make a project he was planning. I have about 10 notepads filled with ideas, stories, and other things because of it.
I won't reveal what it is but people might be surprised. Looking around BYOND I can see why he wanted to make it, 9 of every 10 games is a rip of some game called "WOTS" or "Izou". | |

Ummm I know the Preview box is being removed, but I got to admit that's mighty small box to hold a whole 32x32 man [Sarcasm]

Yeah, You will understand after seeing this.
The box was that big because it was to house more then just the 32x32 base, There are 2 rotation buttons as well, 1 to scroll through skin colors which are tan. The red set rotate the icon itself so you can view all directions, to help better decide what clothing or hairstyle you want.  Savvy? On a side note, that 'spotlight' effect is being replaced by a round area of the grass tile, as soon as we get the grass tile. The round 'spotlight' area is just a placeholder for now. | |
Not bad. Why is everything crunched up in the top-right corner though? You've got lots more space, use it. =) The preview could perhaps be in the centre, with all the selectors arranged around it (maybe in a circle - circles are good).
Also, it's not very intuitive to have the skin-colour-changing arrows curve; it looks like they're supposed to rotate something, whereas actually they just scroll through selections. Try making them straight. Also, it's quite disorganised. Everything seems to be placed quite arbitrarily. You've got the skin colour selector sitting around the portrait. Eye colour is grouped with gender and hairstyle, and you've got hair colour and outfit sitting out all by themselves. Why? I suggest that you either group the selectors by the thing they change (so hairstyle is next to hair colour, and each of outfit/eye/gender/skin are separate), or by type (so all the colour selectors are in one column, and all the others are in another column), or figure out some other consistent scheme. | |

I understand trying to defer away from default fonts - But that should never be at the expense of readability. Perhaps pick a wacky font that is a slight bit more clear than the one you're using there. | |
That's a lot better already. I think you can get even more creative with the placement of the boxes though - they're very boxy and grid-like right now, which isn't necessarily attractive. And again, you can afford to spread them out a lot more. Maybe try putting the (smaller) eye colour box above the preview, and the other two (larger) boxes on the left and right of the preview to balance things out. Do some experimenting and see what looks good.

That looks much better! Not that the original was bad, or anything.
Some suggestions: More readable font. The irregular letter sizes make it somewhat annoying to read. More contrast on the selector arrows. Mainly a style thing; maybe make the arrows look more like 3d arrow buttons? Screen placement. It still looks a bit awkward. Maybe try centering everything a bit more? Or is there another category that is to be added on the right side? Again, very good looking so far. Don't forget to make the game fun! | |
Anyways, that looks pretty awesome. I can't wait to see it in action. :)
