- Give the game a structured, GuildWars style storyline, with missions coming in sequential order
- Create multiple storylines that diverge, allow player(s) to choose their own path
- Make no particular storyline, but all the quests paint a picture of the kind of world you are playing in
- Other...
I appreciate the input.

My RPG is at a turning point. It has a good engine, fun gameplay, and more. The question I present to you all is: Which of the below should I move on to?

Choose their own path, or the painting of pictures approach.

Okay, I dont know if you had this as an option, but here's my input.
-If you ever played the game Fable, You go through the game, and create your own destiny, based on your decisions, and missions you take on. I think that would be the route to go down. |

I've never seen something like GuildWars done on BYOND, that'd be kind of cool.

i like the one about having like the person paint their own picture thingy

1 and 2 sound interesting, but I don't like 3 at all. No storyline means no storyline. "Painting a picture" just sounds like a pretty way of saying "sidequests". I may find a game fun for a while but after that I'd like to know why I'm continuing to play. Grinding for the sake of grinding doesn't feel like a big motivator if there's no end to it, unless you have a max level. And then there's either nothing left to do with that character, or fill yourself up on sidequests.

As of now, with current input, I'm thinking of the below system:
There is a system of main quests and a system of side quests. As the player completes quests, the plot thickens, until the final quest, paricipating in a great battle to save your world from the forces of chaos and evil. The player's actions prior to this will determine which side (if any) he or she is fighting on. After completing that battle, the player returns to his/her life prior to the main action. Once a player has completed every sidequest, the main quest, and has achieved a certain level, their names are recorded in a great library on the map for all to see. (Players choose when to delete characters, they will be able to continue to play after they "beat" the game. What do you think of such a system? What would you change? **NOTE** The above is an extremely basic summary. I will obviously flesh that out in practice. --Vito |

you would have to be careful on having local servers on computors then because if someone can do that then they might just do save-state hacks of that offline or if you have PvP then they would not have to worry about the other players
