Tell me what you think of the interface on Magus aut Caligatus, my currently almost-completed project. Suggestions and comments welcome, so long as they pertain to the interface.

I expect this game to be ready in a few weeks, maybe a month and a half at most.

Kind of hard to tell when the image is so small.
Sorry, but I personally don't like all the tabs you have there.

I would like to suggest keyboard interface.

Click to enlarge? Did you miss that?

If the bigger picture's too small, sorry. That's the biggest I can make it without exceeding the size limit for my file host.

My opinion

- The pipe is ugly
- It seems like you've spend more time on the Admin hud than the player hud
- A hud like that, with all those tabs?
In response to Vito Stolidus
There was no need for a full screen, if you were just showing an interface. So, maybe you should've just used Dream Seeker's built in function.
In response to Cheetoz
Is there a built-in function to put pictures on the internet? I can get the pictures, the shrink has to come when I host it due to a maximum file size.

What do you suggest? I am working on moving as much as possible from the commands to the HUD. What's still in the tabs is player info, combat skills, equip/unequip commands, drop commands, and HUD spell management. I really can take at least one tab off that.

Well, I can take the "spells" tab off in favor of a button. I can put on a button that lists my spells. The "Communication" tab can go, most of that is already on the HUD, and the rest is easy.

Those black squarish shapes are filled in by spell icons for quick-cast, usually. When I screenshot that, I had no newed to cast spells immediately, so I forgot to set the spells. I'll put up another screenshot with some tabs removed and spells in place.

Bring commands and communication and display together. Also, drop all the <center>. It saves up enough room for a bigger screen size with more hud-abilitys.

"<center>"???

He means <censor> not <center>.
Vito, first I'd like to say that even though I've been around here since `99, I'm generally not a Byond games player, and my opinion will vary from what others have to say.

I don't have a problem with tabs. You can have 100 tabs for all I care, as long as none of them are non-essential. In other words, things like inventory, spell lists, etc... Things that do not need to be accessed but every so often while playing the game. If your game requires that a spell be clicked, however, then that's a problem. As long as to cast a spell or use a skill, you don't have to switch tabs, then I say having them is no problemo. It's arbitrary for some of these guys to complain, "Too many tabs!" unless they've played your game and find that they are spending way too much time switching between them. Sure, having all those tabs doesn't look so pretty.

Suggestion: There should be a "Main" tab that houses all the necessary info for normal game use. When you want to access your character sheet or inventory, you can always temporarily switch tabs, but as long as the game can be played mostly from this Main tab, you should be fine. Mocing all essential commands from the other tabs into either the map screen or the Main tab would be the idea.

As far as aesthetics go, since I don't have much experience with all the Byond games that are out there, I can't rate your art job. Speaking of which, it would be real nice if some vets could post links to games that have A++ interfaces where ideas could be gleaned from.

Still drawing a blank.

I think that the only thing that should be in the tabs is information and non-urgent (non-combat) commands, such as equip, HUD management, etc. That's what's in those tabs. Anyway, I just cut down on unnecessary tabs, combining them and putting things on the HUD.

I've got another screenshot, showing what those little black squares do:

Yea, sure can't make a big enough file...

WHy use png, jpeg owns it

how? It lets me only put up 1028 KB or less... The big version is 3000+kb.

Seriously, I have no clue what you're talking about. <censor>, <center>?? Wha?

Forgive my inexperience, but I've no clue.
