I want to make a fun capture the flag game that would be intresting and enjoyable to play. What sort of features should I add to make an intresting Game of capture the flag?

I'd like to see a turn-based strategy game of capture the flag instead of an action one.

I think you'd enjoy Deadron's next game, Jon. =) I helped him test it a while back and it was quite fun, despite being buggy and very unfinished at that stage. Check out his blog for more info.

It isn't quite Capture the Flag, though, so there is room for a turn-based CTF game. Some ideas:

- Turn-based is slow to play because you have to wait for everyone, so make the maps small and/or find a way to speed it up (some form of simultaneous turns, perhaps).

- Because it's turn-based, there needs to be some strategy involved. Add obstacles that can only be bypassed if you hold certain expendable powerups. Place the powerups in out-of-the-way locations. Maybe even randomise which powerup you get, so it becomes a strategic risk - do you take the extra time to grab the powerup and hopefully get an advantage that way, or do you power on ahead as fast as possible, potentially getting to the flag faster?

- Most CTF games require you to have your own flag at its base before you can score. This often results in "deadlocked" situations, where both teams have each others' flags and nobody can score. This is interesting in real time, but might become boring in turn-based. I'm not saying to remove that requirement, necessarily, but you need to consider whether it will be as fun.

SO I was thinking ill make a line the separates 2 sides one side is red and one side is blue. if your red and go on to the blue side to try and get their flag and a blue player tags you, you have to start restart back at your flag. Also maybe the flags should be guarded by force fields and you would have to go to a random spot to hit the button to disable it but the only way the other team can put there force field back up is if they tag the person that turned off the force field or there flag has been captured.

this sound alright anything to be added ? what kind of obsticals or what else would you like to see?

I've played it and it's quite fun except for one or two little bugs that popped up. :)

Heh, I'm sure it wasn't nearly as buggy as when I played. =) We didn't finish the game... (And I didn't have time for another.)

And yet, strangely, I still had fun.
