Well after a good deal of messing around with the DM language, I have figured out what seems to be the bottom-basics and am now on the way to creating my own game. The language is alot like C++ in format.
Although this forum handle is relatively new, I have been reading helpful files and toying with demos a couple weeks before. (2 to be exact)
My first project is going to be an original Collectable and Trading card game, like I always wanted to do but lacked the resources. I plan to give it a theme, setting, background and everything else to make it movie-like in play. Although this will be my own creation I know that I will probably take a few small ideas from my favorite CCGs and incorporate them, its really hard to be 100% original when your doing something that already has been done and successful but I will try my best.
Graphics seem like they will be the most annoying part but I found myself to be a slight prodegy at the 32 x 32 pixel animations and frames.
Wish me luck and please reply with your opinions and ideas, I am always open to them.

Well I don't have any opinions but I am not very busy, just working on demos here and there. I could help you if you need it.

The Creations Forum is generally used for things that are finished, or at least in a playable and testable state. This post is more appropriate for Design Philosophy.

There's nothing wrong with building on concepts from other works. That is how the human mind works. All ideas are built on concepts we already know. Your game feel be fresh and original as long as your ideas are evolved forms of the ideas you take from other sources. The main thing to remember, definately don't name your game after an already existing one. That immediately labels your game a fan game and implies little originality or evolution of ideas. Wish me luck and please reply with your opinions and ideas, I am always open to them. Good luck. I hope you enjoy your time with BYOND. :) |

Sorry about using the wrong forum, I will try to remember which is which next time.
And thanks for the luck, I made a few MUDs in c++ so I have some game design experience. ...Guardian of Dragons... |
Welcome to the game designing world DG, Although I am very inactive with byond lately *And soon to be dropping it all together* I would be able to help with some graphics if you wish.
I am "Up There" when it comes to icon making, and even though I may not be the best I am still pretty good. I have been waiting for someone to make a card game *I lack the time and inspiration to do it myself* and scince this is your first project I may also be able to help a bit with programming lessons *Im not as great a programmer but I know some things that could help*. I am leaving byond sooner or later *Already dropped any coding I've been doing* But I plan to stay in the art department for a while. *In response to your Newbie Central post* I am 18, I too live in upstate New York *A small town called Warrensburg* and I am in 11th grade, in the shows department We have alot in common, but I really dont like YuGiOh *The cards are ok but the show is too anti-climatic* Im more of a Magic:The Gathering fan. ~-=Ken=-~ P.S: My Email is [email protected] and my AoL sn is NeoHaxorX. |

Well Neo, I would greatly appreciate the graphics help if it is needed and I will surely contact you, but I wish to develope my first project solely. I feel if I do this myself I would learn much quicker from my mistakes, and I feel if I let you help me it might slow me down in my later creations.
Im glad you are willing to help and I will be getting AIM soon, but as it stands now you will have to chat with me over Email. My email address is [email protected] and I have added you to my contacts list. I hope you keep a spot for me open, if your help is needed. But as I stated I would much prefer doing this myself, as it is my first game of this type. ...A Guardian of Dragons... |

Well I'm not going to repeat myself, but basically what I said in response to Neo is the same for you.
I also appreciate your will to help, and will keep you as another contact. Thank you ...A Guardian of Dragons... |
Well I have been working on this game a good deal now (As my boss at work says, "One-hundred and Ten percent!") when I am not with my friends, at Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments/Games, work, or school.
As it stands now I have written a few projects with different pieces in them that will benefit my game upon its creation; I have also created basic card interfaces, backs, and the most important part, the system itself. The gameplay is mostly my original ideas but there are also some "borrowed" ideas from other card games. As it stands for characters I have hand-drawn about 20 during study halls, English, and Math. Most of the characters in the game will consist of Dragons, Mages, Warriors and Martial artists along with a few other minor types. All of the card types are as follows. * Character - What you are attacking or defending with * *Effect/Element - Elements are what allow characters to preform their special abilities. * Equipment - These cards vary. * Battle Grounds - Effect all the characters in play * *Effect/Trap - Stole this idea from Yu-Gi-Oh along with Tributes ** I find traps and tributes a great addition if you want more strategy players than power players. * *Effect/Magic - It seems most card games use magic ** Magic cards also vary * - Up to 10 effect cards may be in play at a time. You can play as many as you wish during one turn. Well this is all I have for now, but please state your opinions and look for other updates. ...A Guardian of Dragons... |
