And it wasn't even due to a faulty strap!
Let me start by saying that I have been the owner of my own Wii (Finally!) for the past couple of days... My wife has an "inside connection" that works at Wal*Mart, and she was informed that they were putting out a shipment of them at midnight Saturday night... So, we headed over there at about 1:30 AM to pick one up (at her insistance, even... apparently, she wanted me to have one of those things almost as bad as I wanted to get one... she had planned to buy one for Christmas, but there weren't any around, so she's felt sorry that I didn't get one yet...lol)
Anyways, we've had a lot of fun with it, playing WiiSports, and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (the only games I have so far... I'd have bought Zelda as my first non-bundled game, but she asked me to get a game that she'd like to play, too, and of the choices, Wario Ware was the best option)
And it was that darn Wario Ware that caused the Wiimote throwing...lol
In the game, you go through "micro-games" performing different tasks with your Wiimote ("Form Baton" as the game calls it)... Each task is set up to be performed by holding the controller a certain way (pointed like a remote control, held like a dumbell, laying on the open palm of your hand, etc)
Well, there's one "Form", called "Discard", where you lay the controller on a surface in front of you, and don't touch it until necessary... Games for this "Form" were things like picking up a ringing phone, and grabbing your samurai sword when attacked...
A game as such came up, and I had laid the thing down, sans strap... Well, in my rush to grab it when the deadly ninja appeared, I forcefully swiped my hand toward it to scoop it up, but instead of properly grabbing it, I sent it flying across the room...lol
Fortunately, it survived... Perhaps thanks to the cushioning powers of the pink rubber sleeve we had added to it (I was using the controller we've designated as my wife's, and she wanted to get the pink cover and strap for it...lol)
Good times, though... WiiSports is, obviously, completely awesome, and Wario Ware is extremely entertaining (in that weird, highly Japanese kind of way) I can't wait to pick up some more titles (Zelda and Red Steel, here I come!) I also can't wait to hook the thing up to the internet, but as that would require purchasing and setting up a wireless home network (it would be too much hassle to switch my cable modem from PC to Wii and back, so I need to get a router and wireless adapters for both devices), I'm not sure how far that is down the road...

I would've sworn my controller was a goner... It sailed at least 5 feet behind me, and hit my parents' computer desk (we've taken my Wii to my brother-in-law's house, and to my parents' house, to show it off...lol this event occured at my parents' house)
Of course, Nintendo devices are notoriously sturdy... Especially their controllers and handhelds... NES controllers could withstand repeated beating on TVs, floors, walls, etc...lol So, I'd guess their Wiimote, though looking quite delicate, is probably built like a tank...lol I suppose I should have kept the strap connected, but it's hard to do it for that particular game... Wario Ware does test you, though... There's a "game" where all you do is drop the controller (it shows it as a litle guy bungee jumping)... If you're not wearing your strap, you've just dropped your Wiimote on the floor...lol |
The game tells you repeatedly ALWAYS to wear the strap. If you end up dropping it you only have yourself to blame. :P
|
Yeah, they're very persistent about making sure you're wearing the strap, and I'm usually pretty good about it...
It's just that for that one particular Wario Ware micro-game "Form" (the term they use for the starting position of the controller), it's easier to take it off... Though I don't think that should be a problem, normally... I was just a bit, umm, overzealous...lol |
I only played Red Steel once, and although it was pretty good, I didn't like it that much.
It was too hard, which is something that I generally don't say, because I like hard games that have a bit of a challenge to them. But, with Red Steel, you have to move way to much, constantly. I only got past the first few levels, and I couldn't find this one guy, who was shooting at me(out of nowhere. -_-), and after about twenty minutes of looking for him, I got pissed and said "screw it." Then shut off the Wii, furiously. Haven't went back to it since. I just want to try out the Zelda game, and the Super Smash brothers, with Solid Snake in it, from Metal Gear Solid. >:] They look awesome. Well, that, and I want to be able to get passed the level on Red Steel, as to where I can use the sword, instead of the crappy .9mm hand gun. -_____-+ |
But good thing it went in the bushes or I probably would've needed $49.95 for a new one :(
