Things definitely appear to be settling down. Reboot and kick functionality largely make LRS self-regulating (especially once I fixed a problem that removed the client limit for the day), and things basically seem to be working.
So, finally, refinements and new content are possible again!
Tonight's goodies:
- By popular demand, a waiting queue! People can use the "join game" command to join the queue.
- An incentive for winning: The winner always gets into the next game.
- Improved the new boost interface a bit by adding a "none" option to the list of boost items and removing the "cancel" button.
- WiFi has been renamed to "GPS Error". Sorry, Elation, but it was just bugging me not to have a complete rationale for the teleport aspect of the module!
And I did some editing on the instruction manual provided by ScouSin, which should be available shortly.
As we look toward the 100+ items on the ToDo list (refinements and new modules), the mind starts to wander toward what kinds of player recognition, contests, etc we could provide. Perhaps track the "winner of the day" for a server, where the person winning the most games is called out. Perhaps track all time winners, etc. We could create a central web page with some game info.
Any suggestions here welcome.
And a question: If we did an LRS t-shirt (and/or mouse pad and the kind of jazz available at a place like Cafe Press), would you consider buying it? I'm thinking we could use Elation's version of Guy's robot, with a slogan like:
"*I* am the Last Robot Standing"
Some or all proceeds would probably go to BYOND. If there is interest, perhaps we could even get BYOND to include the items in their Cafe Press store (if that's possible).
Just musing...but let us know!

I don't understand why you don't let in observers sometimes :P Just like with my SD, it's enjoyable to watch other people play sometimes. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a problem with that.
|
unfortunately, the player limit existing makes it so people can hardly play in the first place... a queue system doesnt mean a thing if the game locks people out at 8 players -_-
|
Simple bug: Created walls can be targetted as sendable to another universe, but using said card on it does nothing.
Also, I just found out that the name of that counteraction from Wiz-War that reverses damage dealt is called "Reverse". God, that was buggin' the heck out of me. |
an error that has creeped up due to annoying people or idling people, is when someone is booted and it's their active turn... the game doesn't detonate them.
|
ScouSin, I'll check out that wall problem.
Aiden I did a fix last night that will hopefully catch the problem with booted people not getting destructed, but I'll keep an eye on it. Actually to simplify things, I'll probably stop having a destruction countdown and just destruct them immediately, at least if they are kicked. Mechadragon, I think we'll remember who started the last reboot vote and not let them start the vote again. It's already set so that if you start a reboot vote and it fails, you can't start another one within that game session (until the next reboot). Kunark, we do allow observers. Half or more of the people in the game are observers right now, since only 4 can play at a time. We might increase the client limit from 8, but it tends to mean more spam and more people going AFK and then not being there when their game starts. I'd be willing to put up more servers if we could find some real hosting situations. That means 24/7, with an ftp or login account, and a solid machine/network setup. If you know of a situation like this, let me know! |
Why not add something that woill boot AFK people, for instance, those who don't get into the game have a button appear saying, "Observe?" and if they don't push it within X amount of time they are booted.
|
Why not just let people download their own? I know it usually hurts community a bit, but since you can't play unless multiplayer, why not? It would also give a chance for people to play with their friends instead of strangers if they wish.
I know I'd rather play against someone new than someone who will kick my arse :P With permanent servers, you wouldn't be able to avoid others. |
The game is not at a 1.0 point yet. Some of the basic gameplay elements haven't been implemented. It's typically updated three or four times a day, sometimes more.
And we haven't decided on what our hosting model is yet. I don't know if we'll release it publically at all. Maybe we'll run all the servers, or maybe only BYOND Members can run servers, or something. Until the game is done and we know how we want to release it, it's not going out. |
hmm, Deadron, how bout this, if someone logs out or gets booted, is there anyway that the next one in the queue gets asked if they want to jump in over the thirty second countdown, and if they don't it asks the next and next...
|
Possibly, Aiden, but I fear complications from that...just destructing them may be the cleanest approach.
|
Heh, I didn't mean the reboot verb, I meant the module that gives you another turn.
