Ignorant Guy:
cool songs but y so expensive i mean i'm a mucisian
and i kick anal and i make songs and sell them but i
make likke 15 of them put them on a cd and sell for
like 20$ but u make 1 and charge 50$ not even pros
charge that much for an album and u make 1 little
amatuer song and charge 50$ u must be
A)drunkB)highC)crazy or D) all of the above

Ebonshadow:
I charge 50 dollars a song because:
A) I spend 3+ hours on a song. I make 14 dollars an hour at work to put pills in bottles. I believe making music is a bit more complex so 17 dollars an hour is reasonable.
B) People are willing to pay that much.
C) I am dedicated to my craft.
D) I've put over a thousand dollars into my gear.

Please, show me some of your songs. As far as guitar playing goes, I gaurantee I can out solo you and basically dehumanize in ways you cannot imagine. That may sound egotistical, and most guitarists. If you want to attack my work and be taken seriously then you should show some of your own work.

For your information, pros charge way more than 50 dollars a song. They usually charge by the hour.

It's also worth noting my music is custom tailored. It's not like I just write a song and say, "here it is, take it or leave it." It's far different to write a song and try to sell it than to build a song by custom orders. You need to know how to emulate alot of different styles of music. It's like the difference between having a custom chopper built for you and picking out a motorcycle from a salesman.

At 20 dollars for 15 songs, each song is worth 75 cents.

I'm having no shortage of work with my music, so clearly my work is worth at least 50 dollars.

Ignorant Guy:
ok fist of all im not that serious into guitar playing
im good but not crazy good i play saxophone oboe flute
clarinet and stand up bass and im talking about band
pros not crazy hoboes who think theyre good and are
but charge crazy amounts because theyre stuck in
therye moms basment and wishing they could move out so
they go crazy with prices real bands charge like 15
dollors for an album and spend like 1 month creating
songs writing songs and go to a studio to record i
mean go to walmart and find like an album of any band
and itll be max about 30$at the most but i bet if i
saw ur album it would be like 1,000 dollors because
each song is 50$each u crazy pill popper

Ebonshadow:
Still waiting to hear some of your work. So far, it doesn't look like I'm losing any business to you so I'll keep my prices the same. I'm sorry but I find it hard to take you seriously, not only because of your approach to get competition to lower prices but also because you sound like a genuine idiot. Writing an album is nothing like composing custom music. An album is something you write for yourself. People buy it because they like what you're doing. Custom music is tailored to somebody else's vision. I would spend no more than 12 dollars on an album. I would hope that musicians doing sound tracks for movies/games/whatever make more than 12 dollars off their song. Many people may buy an album and the profits will be higher than selling a custom song to a single person by your arguement.

Sounds like you are confused about the difference between composers and bands. In fact you sound like a very confused individual in general. Don't bother replying because you are now blocked.
Some people find bliss in ignorance.

Some people are idiots :-P
Ignorant guy, was "teh jealous".

=P

I'm guessing the difference is that Ignorant Guy sells his songs over and over again. He's seems to be associating musicians with Wal-Mart instead of... well, musicians. =P
My thoughts exactly YMIHere.
You know the old saying, If ignorance is bliss, then he must be orgasmic.

"At 20 dollars for 15 songs, each song is worth 75 cents."

*raises brow at you*

;)
Hah, yeah guess I did the math wrong. What are you doing reading these old posts anyway?
Yeah, I think he's not getting the point that a musician who sells CDs commercially doesn't just get paid one time...

They get paid for every CD sold...

So, per CD, they might be making a buck and some change per song... But once a few thousand (or million) CDs have been sold, they've made thousands per song...

Well, the label has made thousands per song... The artist just made whatever their deal said they'd make, plus some royalties (perhaps)...

Either way, they get paid a LOT more than the price of one CD...

And if that guy is selling multiple CDs (not likely, but possible), he should realize that he's getting paid more than $1.33 per song... He's getting paid $1.33x[number of CDs sold] per song...

The difference is that you're both charging the same ammount of money... But his method divides it among more people...

The end result is essentially the same...
Note: In case my last post is misinterpreted, I realize that artists do not get paid per CD sold, they get paid up front (with perhaps a small percentage of sales profits later)... But in essence, the record label is payng them for the estimated number of albums sold (based on popularity, and other factors that tell the label how many copies are likely to sell)...

So they don't really get paid "per CD"... But it works out that way...
