Who are they and what can they do? I've always wondered this.
They are a select few who can rule the world by saying beep.
no, but seriously snoop around on the forums you're bound to identify them.

This is a list of them. They basically oversee the community.

Thanks for this list. Would you know the specifics of their abilities to physically manipulate BYOND related aspects?

The BYOND Staff have access to pretty much anything website related, but when it comes to your game they can't touch inside of it(and have no interest in it). There is no system that gives Tom any more access to your game than any other user. He can, however, remove your game's listing on the site.

If someone ever enters your game claiming to be BYOND Staff or admins, they are not. The list you were given in a post above covers all the top level control people, but there are moderators that also have power over some aspects of the website. I, for example, am a moderator in these and a few other official BYOND forums as well as the leader of the BYOND Help guild. As a result, I have some power, but I cannot touch your hub entries and because in most guild that I have any power in I only have forum powers I can't even remove your game from a guild's game list.

This delegation of power makes sure that only users who have a needed to control something can control it. And all levels of moderators are chosen very carefully, helping keep the official channels of BYOND clean of moderator abuse.

Clearly publishing a list of BYOND staff members, forum moderators, and guild leaders would probably cut down on problems like this. BYOND needs more transparency.

To build on this, BYOND Anime staff similarly have no powers over your hub or game, beyond being able to list it on the website in our guild. Our powers are on http://www.byond.com/members/BYONDAnime and deeper URLs of the website, nothing else.

Thanks for sharing this information. Who would I contact if a BYOND Admin was in fact abusing their powers?

I've never seen this happen in the ~7 years I've been on BYOND. But if you suspect that is the case, contact the powers that be directly.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my questions.
Where would this message be sent to? A specific BYOND admin or all BYOND admins?

I don't know how it works on their backend. But I assume it's saved to the database and accessible on a page only the top branch can read.

AFAIK the back-end is a ticket system. When you submit the support form, everyone receives it. Whatever administrator is online at the time may respond or ignore the ticket. If a response is sent, the other admins can see this and ignore the ticket.

Note that they don't like to be disturbed by support tickets. They'd much rather that you ask your questions on the forum or go to the appropriate guild if it's related to a specific topic (from what they told me in the past =P). They are very busy people.

The support form is really only to be used in cases where you've lost access to your account completely, business-related inquiries, and in very special scenarios. But most of your questions can be answered right here.

Half of those people aren't even active in the community anymore. That seems to be more like credits than a list of admins to me.

I've only ever had Tom answer mine, so I thought he was "in charge" of it so-to-speak.

Likewise. I was actually going to say this awhile ago but decided not to because I wasn't sure. o.0

You really need a few more years of experience under your belt before talking about the world at large.

And the CIA is the horrible power-abuse organization, not the FBI.
