I know it's brought up all the time, but with 3.5 here, and 4.0 on the way don't you think we should get rid of all of these unused hub entries, and entries that haven't been active for awhile?

[link] it talks about deleting stolen items... So Zeta, and Icon Chatters rips should be abolished too.
Please define unused and unactive. Without clear attributes, it's rather hard to determine what's unused and what's just used by people who are not cared about. Even if you had set categories, the space saved would tend to be tiny, especially compared to the time spent matching hub pages to the definitions. You'd probably be better off requesting one or multiple advanced search options to filter out what offends you.

Unused meaning no one can download it, or the zip is corrupt. Of course e-mail the person first, and if they don't reply deleted it. Un active meaning no one has downloaded it for awhile, or it hasn't been updated for awhile.

Some games can only be joined when the their servers are up. It's not unusual. If they're not in official channels then there's no reason to check how regularly they are hosted. Meanwhile, checking files for corruption sounds like a constant job that the staff could do without.

If nobody downloads something that merely means it might be unpopular. If a project has not been updated, it could be finished. (For example, I have extra Webcrawl maps which sat around for years until their recent move to my BYOND Members space but were still useable.)

Searching for things like a download link or last update wouldn't bother me. However, I imagine deleting those entries would probably tick me and a lot of other people off.
Heh, maybe they should just do a pre-announced "wipe" of the HUB entries...

Tell everyone beforehand, and then delete everything... Leave it up to the currently active developers to put their stuff back up...

All of the obsolete stuff would be gone, and only the developers willing to go to the trouble of putting their stuff back up would repopulate the HUB... Chances are, only the "good" developers would bother... All of the kids who ripped something, and slapped up a new entry with their name on it wouldn't bother (heck, most of them are probably long gone)

Of course, this would be a huge inconvenience to the more prolific developers (more projects means more to put back up)...

As an alternative to this, perhaps there could be a "do not delete my stuff" list that developers could add their keys to, which would protect their entries from the mass deletion...

Or, alternatively - spare the demos, libraries & games all accepted into official channels.

Actually, that is another good measure to take... I'd suggest using them in tandem... There are a few worthwhile entries out there that aren't in an official channel... (Murder Mansion is one of them! lol)

I realize that by having a list of "protected entries" that anyone can sign up on prior to the sweep will allow any of the ones that we wish to get rid of to still remain on board... However, I'm banking on the assumption that most of these people won't bother, and the ones that do, would have just re-entered their stuff anyways...lol

Of course, I doubt any of this will happen, but in case the powers that be want to do some needed clean-up, we can do some brainstorming for them...

I think that is actually a wonderfull idea.

And then we would lose everything that is decent, not in the published section, and which has a creator that left Byond.

Some people have games which are worth keeping on the hub but are not around to revive them if they were to be removed.
