Ok. Im not sure on the exact rules of the FanGames.DragonballZ channel. However 'DragonballZ: Majin's and Mystic's' is selling subscriptions, and if I remember right that goes against the rule and could land BYOND in trouble.
Sorry Kujila, just looking out for BYOND.

I think selling subscriptions to his own game is not a problem... let the buyer beware I say.

It's a DBZ game, can you say "copyright violation"?

Funimation has assured me that it is okay to charge for added features and stat boosts - they do say, however, that it is strictly prohibited to pay for play. I doubt that their kind words hold any security, however, and if need be, I will change my name and flee the country.

And the Prime Minister of Canada has assured me that I am guaranteed to win the next election, even though I'm not currently running for Prime Minister.
Case in point, we'd need proof before we took your word for it -- a letter written on paper with their corporate letterhead. =) Case also in point, it's against the rules for any FanGame to charge for anything, period. That's part of the Hub guidelines. |

It raises a point though... If the King of Nintendo officially proclaimed that I, DogMan, am allowed to charge for my Donkey Kong DX* game should I be able to go against the rules of the Channel? Well the no charging rule anyway.
-DogMan *Sorry all you DK Fans, there is no DKDX game, at least not one made by DogMan. |

But the contracts are with different entities. In this case, requesting a review for your hub entry is an implied contract rather than a written one, but it's still a contract.
For example, I couldn't care less if you wrote a contract with someone that said that if you came to work for me I would have to pay you $100 an hour. When you and I work out a contract, we decide what to pay you together, and that other contract doesn't influence me one bit unless I signed that contract as well. That analogy applies to this situation as well -- doesn't matter if the company for which you have a fangame says you can request some small contributions for advantages, the Hub's guidelines are regulatory and supersede those. (I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct here. =)) |

Kujila, please send me clear proof of this ([email protected]), or please change the charging now. Otherwise this will be removed from the hub within 24 hours. |

Look, it's been over 6 months that I've been selling subscriptions, so what is the big interest now?
|
Ok, since all of you people have made a problem where there was none, I will have to go and e-mail Funimation AGAIN and request additional information to soothe your spastic tendencies.
-Also,...Again I stress to you, I'm not charging to play; that would be copyright infringement, rather, players can pay 10 dimes (A dollar) and start out with a better guy. It's not required at all! ~Kujila |

And it wasn't noticed before. Reviewer's fault. Now it was noticed. And now you were called on it.

Again, it doesn't matter whether or not you're charging to play. Charging isn't allowed.

I would have to disagree there. I agree with Kujila. If I made Zelda - an adventure BYOND time or whatever, I can't charge people to play the game, but I can charge people to start with Gannon instead of Link.

Let me phrase it differently -- it's still causing someone to pay money for intellectual property that belongs to another company.
In short, you can't charge for anything, because you aren't allowed to earn a profit from anything. Besides, the rules are the rules... I didn't make them! =P |

But what if you charged to allow people to play as Jim the Mechanical Unicorn instead?

You're still earning a profit (however small, since I doubt many people like to be unicorns...) in a project created from someone else's intellectual property. =P

What would happen if it was a original game (RPG), but you could pay to be Goku? Since it's not a fan game its allowed to charge and not break the rules for its channel, but its not the creators property.

Let me reply to this whole thread.
I see a few wrongs, and rights. Now, Kujila is charging people{optional} for stats. Right? Yes. Now his hub entry is being threatened to be deleted, when it's optional. Why arn't all the hub enteries being deleted for people selling old zeta code? making hundreds of dimes off it, and having a price of 50000 BYONDimes ect.. Which if Funi sees, would probably think "Wow! There making alot of money lets shut them down"! Why arn't they being banished from the hub as well? RaeKwon |

Ok, a few things.
First, its against the channel rules to make profit off anything in that channel, reguardless of weather its an optional extra or not. Second, I belive that some HUB entries that sell the Zeta source code are being deleted, however its a pretty hard task to accomplish. Since when people by the Zeta code, they realise that they cant use it or they get bored with it, then feel they need to make back the money they spent buying it. Third, on the note of selling Zeta code. I dont think HUB entries are the biggest problem when it comes to the leaked source code market. From what Ive seen these 'icon swapping' games tend to a big part of the problem. Log on and ask for a source code, you'll get it provided your willing to pay for it. -DogMan |

Um, well, it actually wasn't reviewed by BYOND staff... RaeKwon had his channel reviewed for FanGames.DragonBallZ and he reviewed it and accepted my game into his channel, therefor, placing it in the FanGames.DragonBallZ channel...
