It would be fun if someone held a '48 Hour Coding Contest'. Id do it myself but
A) I have no dimes, not a single one :( (People dont like not having prizes)
B) I probably wouldnt be able to get as many people to join in as others, due to my newbieish appearance.
It would still rule having one like once a month. Just make sure to give at least 2 days notice before the compotition starts, and have the right people as judges (We dont want 'SSJGOTEtADBZPARADISE NoW WiF 1337SSj @LP 20' winning just because the judge runs on how easy it is to be the strongest).
Also, I suggest for some of the rules.
-You must proved the source code for the game.
-You can not use any libaries/Demos/Premade code.
-Names of the game makers are kept from the judges
(Ie, You send your game to the organiser, the organiser sends it over with a number instead of your name, the review is sent back, then they figure out what number wins, then they figure out what number is what person)
Also, dont make the prize too much, people get upset when they dont win and there is money involved. Its meant to be a fun 'skill improving' thing.

I was going to post it in the creations, I wasnt sure. Too me it wouldnt go in the classified's.
Anyway, Im glad too see that someone is picking up the idea. Im sure with Digital BYOND it will be a great success. Just make sure to use the rule about not telling the judges whos work it is. Also, you probably shouldnt mention who the judges are. You may want to consider making it a monthly thing, and having a week to work on it. Giving people guidelines as to what sort of game it should be that change each time. -DogMan |
I'm not sure about the monthly thing (unless I can get someone else to manage it), but I do like your other suggestions - again it must wait until v4.0 of the digitalBYOND website is online...

Sounds cool I wounder didnt Digital Mouse host a contest like this a while back for a free subscription of somthing?

A while back we tossed around the "Iron Coder" idea, which was basically what you posted. The notion was that we'd have 48 hours to make a game of a certain type -- like, a checkers or frogger clone -- and get them all in, then make them available to be played and judged by the competetors over the next week.
I'm busier than I used to be, but that'd still be a cool thing to do over a weekend. Z |

One was the naming contest for my site (the winning name was of course digitalBYOND). The winner got a free subscription to BYONDscape for a few months... and I also had a coding contest for a non-gaming app (similar prize) just a few months ago... |
But, I think this post belongs more appropriately in Creations or Classified Ads...
