I dont think you quite get the purpose of a GM. If a game and a GM would involve any money at all, it would be money TO the GM for his work. A GM regulates the game flow, and is like the designer's little workers. They hunt down bugs, keep the rules in check, and make sure everyone has a good time. A GM would get paid for doing his job, like in most commercial mainstream games. If your charging money for people to help you, that sounds rediculous to me. Good Luck! FIREking |

Personally i dont look at it this way, because i know a lot of games can become very hectic very quickly without GM's. But if someone is dumb enough to pay money to do work in a game, be my guest, but i would never host it, or do it my self. I would be a GM for free(as in i dont get a dime...) since i feel its nice to help some people out in times of need. |

I would be a GM for free(as in i dont get a dime...) since i feel its nice to help some people out in times of need. And you get to do all of the fun GM stuff. :D Yeah, in my MUD, GM is pretty restrictive... GMs can't attack. GMs can't be attacked. GMs can't teleport, except to the world map and to their own domain. GMs can't cast magic. And a whole lot of other things. Still, being a GM can be fun and rewarding, as well as making a game more newbie-friendly, easy going, and spam-free. Some people, though, want to be GMs because they can make the best swords and equipment, max out their stats in an instant, teleport directly to the boss of the hardest dungeon, kill his ass, and find the ultimate treasure. That's why GMs can't attack. :) |

Right, those gms ive seen other then owners (Most of them) Have just used their, er, divine powers to rig people, slaughter some others, and all of a sudden delete people. Which is why im not giving GM powers out to anyone, except game regulators which I can trust. Paying to be a GM, some people would do it because their on a powertrip, and end up ruining your game. Exactly. Then again, you could make the whole game based around this concept. GM WARS! The more money you spend, the better GM verbs you have access to. You could even make it something like Populous or Black & White, where you have to modify followers that go to war with each other. Hehee! :) It would also occupy the time a few of the people who wander around games asking to be a GM before they even know anything about the game. SomeGuy logs into BYOND Checkers. SomeGuy says:can i be a gm right... |

It took you guys so many times to finally answer the kids question :-p He just wanted to know a simple code and you guys started an arguement, that is funny, but i believe the code for it is.
mob/verb/GM_ME() var/choice = input(src,"Are you willing to pay 10 BYONDimes to be a gm here???") in list("Yes","No") if(choice == "Yes") usr << link("https://secure.dantom.com/ welcomeBYOND.cgi?source=YourKeyHere." else usr << "Then thou shall have no gm privaleges" But, you may have to make alott of checks and install them after. |

It is nowhere near right... and it is ironic that you posted your garbage code in response to Lord of Water's post, which was A) not part of the argument thread you're talking about, B) genuinely helpful and relevant to the question, and C) entreated the reader to "look up PayDimes() in the ref." If you had followed that advice... you would've known what to do! Also, I suspect the reason many of us are disinclined to answer the question directly is that, although there's at least three forums on this page where his query would be relevant, he's managed to post it none of them. |

And, last, if you wish, to subscribe to the "Weekly add of an attack, spell, AND funny joke", it will cost you a weekly $3. Of course all this is made worth it, by the fact that you can now boast to all your friends that your paying for being a GM and having special attacks that no one else has had! Ok, im bored, so whut? :P |

...but it won't change anything. :P Besides of which, everything I said in my post was true. I understand that you're young, you're new here, and probably inexperienced in programming altogether. Contrary to the popular viewpoint, I do cut people slack for that. I didn't say you were stupid for responding to the wrong message... I said it was ironic that you did. I didn't say you were stupid for being wrong... I said you were wrong. If you didn't want to be told that, you shouldn't have asked. For that matter, if you felt you needed a completely separate post asking people if you were right, perhaps you shouldn't have made your original post in such a confident and self-assured manner.
