Get over yourselves. I didn't see the Russians protesting when THEY were the bad guys on 24 last season:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/19/24.muslims.ap/ index.html
They should just cast aliens.
Or Puerto Ricans. Everyone seems to hate them.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all Muslims are protecting.
You both loose! I win!
Not all muslims are what you see on TV silk -_-.

-What Flame Sage said.
Yeah for stereotypes!

I can't imagine why a group would not like to be portrayed as bloodthirsty murderers.

You know, it's kind of funny, some very vocal Christians cry all the time about things like the "war on Christianity" because businesses have the nerve to say "Happy Holidays", but when some Muslims say "Heh, maybe you guys could slow down all the jihad-jihad-durka-durka stuff that would be cool" all of sudden they are whiny freakin' babies.

Sheesh.
I agree with Nish and if i remember nish is a muslim if i remember correctly. I have many muslim friends there not terrorists.

No shit?

Jmurph- the fact is that Muslims have consistently overreacted to any and all criticisms of their religion. Besides, anyone who has actually watched 24 this season would realize that it is no way a commentary on Islam.
They need to cast zombies. They wouldn't complain, hell, they'd love the fresh air!
How is saying that something is not a positive portrayal and having some meetings overreacting? Granted there have been some rather absurd reactions as isolated incidents (such as the government sponsored outbursts over the cartoons of Allah), most Muslims seem to have been quite reasonable and calm about the often stereotypical caricaures of Islam and keep peacefully working, attending classes, etc. Indeed, I know several Muslims in this country who are more scared than anything to speak out against these portrayals due to vilification of Muslims generally and the occasional outbursts of violence against them. (So much for free speech, eh?) Now how many non-Muslims are afraid to speak out against Islam? In this country, apparently not too many. In the Middle East, a different story. So blanket statements about one group or another probably are inaccurate. Imagine that!

You may be right on 24, though, I do not watch it.

And everyone hates those paranoid freaks too.

I'm just surprised anyone is still watching 24 to get offended.

Seriously though. The problem with people being against Muslims doesn't come from exposure to shows like this, it comes from lack of exposure to any type of Muslim life that the western world can relate to.
People don't think they're terrorists because they blew up a city in 24, they think they're terrorists because Muslim terrorists make sure that people know they did it when they blow something up.
Apart from when they're on the verge of rioting for reasons that seem insane to us, that's pretty much all we see of Muslims.
Jesus H freaking Christ, you guys don't get all up in an uproar when someone makes this kind of post about Christians or other religions.

What you're doing is proving SilkWizard's point.

These people in the news article going out of their way to be bitchy and whiny and you still defend them? Yeah no chance.

Bunch of biased hypocrites here.
I have an idea though, lets all just stfu and watch the damn show.

Thats what Kenny G would do.
Christians also aren't a minority that faces constant persecution like Jews, Muslims, etc. So you see this crap happening to Christians? (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/04/america/ NA_GEN_US_NYC_Bias_Attack.php) And our country is one of the most tolerant! Europeans are far more biased against both Jews and Arabs according to at least one survey. And check this out (http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2006-02/23/ article06.shtml).

I again ask, what is so unreasonable about a few mild complaints and a meeting months ago? It's not like they are Pat Robertson (or some the post cartoon Arab nation's clergy) calling for murder.
By your logic, the less people a religion has or the more it is persecuted the more respect it deserves.

And that logic sucks.
World Weaver, you seem to have an inability to discern logic, so I will ignore your juvenile comment and offer you some explanation.

Smaller groups are in greater risk of persecution. In the US, this is often not intentional, as we tend to show greater respect for one another than many nations. However, it still occurs. If you had bothered to read the first article, you would see anti-Islamic and anti-Arab violence seems to be on the rise in the US. Hence, many in the Islamic and Arab communities are concerned about depictions that may encourage that.
Hey Hey, let's not start the personal attacks. I didn't say anything bad about you, I said I disagreed with the logic.

Smaller groups are in greater risk of persecution...anti-Islamic and anti-Arab violence seems to be on the rise...Hence, many in the Islamic and Arab communities are concerned about depictions that may encourage that.

Persecution coming from anywhere and against any people is still persecution. Which is why defense of a certain group(whether the defender is a member of that group or not) more than another is bias.

I'll give you an example; Affirmative Action.

Because White Males are under less chance of persecution, doesn't make the persecution any less bad.

If you had bothered to read the first article

I read them both.

By your logic, the less people a religion has or the more it is persecuted the more respect it deserves.
"Right now the American Muslim community is our greatest asset," the security adviser says. "They have provided law enforcement with hundreds of tips, and not a single member of that community has been implicated in these attacks."

"So far," the chief of staff responds.

---

Oh brother. Was that line really necessary to add in the article?

Talk about how various Muslims are concerned about impressionable people watching the 24 program, add a line from one woman where she points out that the show is trying to show variance in their bad guys, follow it up with how no US Muslims have ever been implicated in attacks...

...Only to end it on a "but maybe they will in the future o.o" vibe. Sheesh.
Where did I ever say that?

Bias isn't inherently bad- it simply means you lean towards something. A pro-safety bias sounds pretty good, a bias towards arson, not so much.

I simply pointed out that smaller groups are at greater risk. It is more effective to address areas of greater risk. By my logic, the more persecuted a religion is, the more we should be concerned with systems that perpetuate that. So if there are people running through the streets smashing the windows of Jewish businesses (for example) we should probably worry about that a bit more!

If you read the article, then where is there a problem understanding why a group that is being targetted by increasing levels of hostility and violence is concerned about depictions that villify them?

If the media routinely portrayed Christians as all deranged KKK members, I think people would be outraged. What makes this potentially more dangerous is that many people seem to believe these depictions of Arabs and Muslims, whereas they would laugh at such a depiction of Christians as absurd (which it is).
Point is:
Not all muslims are terrorists.
I wouldn't like to be pointed out as a terrorist because of my religion. Yes you do get extremist but compare it to the amount of muslims in the world.

To me Jihad is when Imaam Mehdi arrives etc....(long story, and most muslims would agree).
