This is a piece im working on for pitching an RPG to potential team members.

It's a portrait type piece of aphrodite the greek goddess, i plan to eventually place it within a shape and fill it with symbols related to the goddess (confusing yes, but it looks good in my head)

This is just a few screen grabs of the journey up until now (I forgot about them for about an hour, which is why it skips straight to basic structure and shading).

Drafting the piece (i suck at drawing, but it gets the job done).
Aphrodite

Basic shading on the toga/robe thingy and i detailed the face a bit.
Aphrodite

Starting on the head area, decided on corkscrew curls and a rose pin (may need to change the hue of the rose to a deeper crimson red).
Aphrodite

I'll probably update this as I progress.

UPDATE:

I'll just continue with this even though the forums arent so active. It'll save time, although i may end up looking weird.

-Planned out backdrop and elements. The rose and dove are a symbol of Aphrodite, the half circle i may turn into that female cross circle thing.
Aphrodite

-Nearly finished with detail in the hair, although the right side seems perhaps too round. The bloody claw was an idea a friend gave me to represent betrayal (features within Aphrodite myth quite a bit)
Aphrodite
For this step I tried using the darker skin/hair colour that is also the base colour for the rose as Aphrodite's shadow. Im leaning towards the darker blue over the crimson.
Aphrodite
(crimson shadow version)

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Terribly sorry for the massive dump of images, my apologies to anyone with slow internet.

I really like how it looks,
As far as i can see the you hAnd i wonder why no-one commented on this yet!ave two problems.

The face is too flat and the rose shares the same problem..
Minor edit on how i'd fix it ( i know it's a sloppy job...)

ah, the rose was just a placeholder at this point in time, hadn't detailed it at all yet, but i was considering leaving it at 2 shades so it's placed firmly in the background and doesn't over power Aphrodite herself. I understand your concern about the face, im having trouble picking a third shade, though i prefer to keep the nose stylized.

this is where im at so far:

Aphrodite

Yeah, i think the art society is a silent as the grave at the moment.
