Not just you, but those others in this thread that are defending pillow shading as well. It's unlikely that you aren't a kid, at least to me.
|
There's really nothing to defend bro. It really is no point arguing it. Some people don't like it, others utilize it. No point in arguing preferences. That's why you guys should critique the actual animation, rather than the lighting he chose :/. It's pointless arguing about it, so grow up and stop.
If someone likes it, and actually knows how to utilize it, then let them be. This guy wanted critiques on the actual animation, not the coloring of the sprite. Just treat it the same as you would if he chose to leave it void of color. |
I dont know where or from who you've learned the idea of critiquing from, But it seems like you dont know what exactly it entails.
Critiquing means hearing the good and the bad, about everything in whatever it is you're asking for critique on. You want someone to rip into everything about it. You should know this, and if anything its hilarious that you would even suggest to ignore things when critiquing, despite the fact that artists, we're supposed to pay attention to detail. I also seriously suggest you either learn to read, or stop telling people to critique the animation, because as you can see, many of the people in this thread have already done so in the past, myself included. Anyone critiquing anything should critique as much as they can about it, not just what someone is asking for. Especially when what that person asked for was already answered. |

I know EXACTLY what critiquing is. I even had portfolio review today. However, the instructors tell us what they will be looking at. They are looking at certain things for each piece we showed them. Which ever objective we were supposed to accomplish with that certain piece, is the way they critique it. That's why Review takes soooo long. Because they aren't treating each piece the same. If we were supposed to be doing animation, then they'll tell us what was good and bad about the animation, not the colors we chose, because that was not the objective we were supposed to be achieving there.
Why are you guys even arguing this though? Seriously, and even Vermolius said, critiquing it as if it were not colored at all would be better too (Whether you meant it that way or not, doesn't matter online.. you didn't word it any other way.). Since you guys aren't assigning the objectives of these sprites being posted, the people have to ask for critiques on that certain thing. Part of critiquing is knowing what you're looking for. Here you need to critique what they are asking you to critique. Especially if they aren't asking for help on the subject you're critiquing. Other-wise, you aren't helping them much at all.... |
This is not a classroom buddy. You're free to critique whatever someone posts up for critique. To assume the moderators have to assign an objective is hilariously absurd. This section of the forum is work in progress, and with that said, if someone posts a badly colored, badly animated piece, and just asks for one crit, best believe im going to critique everything i see, whether they like it or not.
Pointing out a flaw in his colors/anatomy/shading that he may or may not have seen is helpful, same as critiquing the rest of the piece. And i seriously hope that you dont use that as a crutch when someone does critique anything you make. If you want to continue this discussion, take it to the pager, Im done talking about this here. |
Alright goodbye. I already said this was pointless for you to be arguing about lol. Why do you guys only use the context of what I say, when it takes an entire quote to reply to me without seeming like you missed the point o_O? Eeeeeh...
...:D Anyway, as I said before I can't wait to see what you did without the visual help for the animation :). Lol, I'm hoping it looks good lol. |

Haha, I meant uncolored would be better than pillow-shaded. [blah blah nonsense about how critiquing works.]Yeah, no. It works like this, someone posts their WIP and others make suggestions as to how to make the piece better. Even if the person asks for a specific critique ("How can I make the pose better?") that doesn't mean that's all that can be critiqued. If you think this strange classroom method for judging quality applies to everything you're mistaken. |
Nanda kore-wa o_o'
Reviewing animation where various parts were incorrectly shaded is shits worth. It's like creating a cardboard dude and making him bend his legs. If you can imagine that you'll see animation wise its crap. By the way, judging your instructors description you made - Your instructors suck. Reviewing one aspect of a picture without concern on the whole is hilarious. I can't take it... kekeke. |
Okay argument time is over:
1) I know you guys want to help but don't, Shadow is only saying that if someone does something then you can't change their minds and I had the same type of instructors. 2) Just how people are different so is everything they make. 3) I'm not gonna mess with shading anyways until animation is done.(Which was stated so far back.) 4) I'm in the process of messing with the legs to get a better effect cause I looked at some animations of bipedal werewolves that have similar anatomy and yeah the thighs don't actually go all the way down unless the creature is moving fast. 5) Anyone know about any ways to get a free version of GraphicsGale(I think that's the name lol) |
The internet sucks for explanation :/, cause you guys still don't get it. No my instructors are not idiots. They just do things separately for ACCURATE, and FOCUSED critiques ( you know, for more efficient help on the actual part of art you need more work on, i.e. animation, or coloring, or overall shape...it's all separate so they can concentrate on what's wrong with that part more than any sub element in there. It prevents shitty comments like, "Oh your animation was bad because you colored it pink, green, and grey" ....wtf? See?). You kinda really STILL misunderstood what I said by only replying to context instead of the entire thing. Just...use common sense is all I have to say as a final form of hope for you guys.
Finally argument time is over :). Hmmm.. Lol to tell the truth, I'm actually lost with you now lol. Something I suggested in another topic, is that you draw out anything you want to pixel too :o. It COULD help more, but it all depends on how good you are of imitating a drawn out reference through pixels :/ lol. Also.. I think you can Google download Graphics Gale, and it should have some free downloads o_o. I downloaded it for free..didn't like it, but it was free lol. There are several websites with it :D. |
GraphicsGale is a free download. You just can't save .gif files with the free version pretty much.

No biggie then I just need an animator for saving my gif files.
I gotta catch up on working on it cause I've been working on a Tosen Form that I think I will abandon this in favor of. Here's a collection of my Tosen up 'til present: ![]() I put together a quick preview of my update but the animator I used messed it up and reversed it: ![]() By blckpantha at 2010-10-24 |
