Jute to note, this isnt a rip, I just re-started on my old base editting it a bit and cant get the sides to look good, so I was wondering if you could help me with them ^^.
Though I feel very confident with the south and north states, if you feel like there is something wrong and I should change please tell me ^^.(Sorry TDMI! xD)

Oh haha, thats his other hand from the side, I hate true side views it doesn't look right. So I added a small angle to it.

Okay, just a tip for the frontal states. I think its better to have the icons an odd number of pixels in width, that way it can have one pixel in the middle rather than two, spliting the legs apart. As for the side, try making the ears more visible, and lighten up the dark shades you have on the nose- mouth area. The head shape could also use some work, as the nose comes out abit to far. Do you mind if i edit it to show you what i mean? |

I added ears, changed the head around so its more distinguished and seperate from the rest of his body, and made the arm on the far side more distinguishable and i also edited a few colors. You had a few really dull and uneeded colors. Anyway i hope that helped. PS i dont know how you made big versions of it, so i just edited the small ones. |

One of my problems with teh basez is the pose is often really stale and not so dynamic. I understand that's kinda how things evolved, but we can change it up once and a while. So, I'd say keep the slight angle. They read well as east/west compared to the n/s. I've always wondered about the nose, tho. On most of the Japanese rpg sprites, noses were the last thing they'd add. Eyes: first, eyebrows: second, mouth: third. And maybe, if they had enough room left over, you'd add a nose. I'd say you pulled it off pretty well though for a sprite this size. Speaking of size: Go check out the first state in the thread were the ripper got booted. That first state is an edit from MetalFox and it's a pretty good illustration of how you wanna lower the amount of shading and texture and detail on a small sprite. The only details he really put in as far as muscles are the two pectorals. All his lines (that aren't the base flesh tone) are used to separate larger elements of the body. I know I say it's good to shade (and for every rule there's a metric assload of exceptions), but for small sprites that are commonly used here, you're priority is to make it readable at it's actual size. Detailing the abdomen, the biceps, etc. can make a sprite look jumbled (or sometimes 'scrappy'). So use as few pixels as possible to get your effect. Err on less. Use outlines to shade and mark out large details. Figure out what details are important. I'm not trying to get on you here. This is actually my biggest problem these days. Otherwise, I like the shading on the head. Your shading overall is really improving, too. |
