Also if you would like to mess around with the base do so and post it but dont steal my base!
I actually like the simplicity of it. I would add probably more colors to the texture of the skin, but of course for an outline it looks pretty good. :]

I mean, provided you keep working at it and you continue to add more onto it, but for a step 1 purpose, it is decent.

Alright.

1. Fix the anatomy. Make the arms a bit fatter but a little shorter. Make the legs longer. Make the head smaller.
2. Put in some detail (don't use black for the details, incorporate new colors into the pallete). Facial details are definately necessary. Muscles and how big they are is up to you.
3. Soften the outline (decrease the contrast between the shades of the skin and the outline)
4. Shading (kind of self explanatory)

Now There is two things i cant do 1 is detail like mouths and shade/tone and the other is i cant get the head smaller but i did the other things. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

At least try to do the details. Doesn't matter if it looks bad; We'll tell you how to make it look better.

You don't need to make a mouth, many people don't. Secondly, you can easily shrink the head. Lower the cone top down one pixel, and move the eyes down a pixel as well. Also, shading takes practice to get good at, at least try. Use the DM tools to make a custom pallette of tans so that you can shade your person with it.

Well, for a base it's not bad at all, really. Here's the direction I might take it:

One advantage of the 'big head' style of player icon is you can use the face size to allow the players to make emoticons with their own player sprites:

Anyway, that's my take on it. Good job and keep going!

My mediclorians tell me a copy-paste and slight color changing variation will occur, with very littler - nothing being learned.

Actually you can learn a lot by looking at other people's sprites, and editing them/mimicking them.

anyway the only thing i used was the arms behind his back and i also added a bit of a shine on his head because if i did copy and paste it i would know that it would no longer be my icon it so heres the finished thing until i learn to use shade lol
