This feature has already been implemented, or is already achievable with existing methods.
Would it be feasible to add an option for zooming on the map editor, similar to how it's done in the icon editor?

There are a few zoom levels already available. I don't think more will come until the map editor's renderer is replaced with Dream Seeker's hardware renderer, which is in the plans.
