A Serenity game.
Actually, let me clarify... a good Serenity game.

I second this motion.

I do believe there's a semi-major studio trying it.
Now, whether they ship, and whether it's good is still waaay up in the air. |
Want to play a campaign of the Serenity tabletop game? Or are you counting it as a bad Serenity game?
|
Man, it would be sweet if there was some kind of game development kit that would let you build something like that! :)
|
The problem lies in the region of development, Gughunter. Not the tools. (translation: don't give jt any ideas about transitioning from newtopia to a serenity project!)
edit: come to think of it, there would be no complaints here if that the above parenthetical statement were to come about. |
I've had ideas about transitioning from Newtopia to "The Frontier" for ages now, but wisely decided to make a blog post instead. ;-)
A Serenity-themed mod for Gun would indeed be pretty cool, although it'd be pretty tough to implement space ships and boarding actions into an engine that's designed primarily for wide, open spaces and wide, open mine shafts. |
An MMORPG set in the Firefly/Serenity universe would pretty much be the coolest thing ever if it were done right.
Actually, screw that: I just want them to bring back Firefly. In my opinion, Serenity is the best science fiction movie ever made next to Empire Strikes Back. |
Silk:
http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/12/08/ 0358216&from=rss Fox sold the rights, so it isn't a Serenity game; in fact, the events of Serenity will not have ocurred in the game 'verse. I doubt it will qualify as a 'good' game, regardless. |
Well, when I said "Serenity", I was really referring to the whole Joss Whedon/Firefly galaxy theme as a whole -- high-tech Alliance, low-tech frontier, Reavers (thank you very muchly for them, Alliance). An actual Serenity computer game that allowed you to take the part of the crew and fly the Serenity itself would probably be too derivative for my tastes.
|
Serenity has been out for a long while. It's fair game for spoilers. ;-)
(It does remind me of one person who enclosed spoiler warnings for Star Wars once...) |

Orbiter was always a pain in the butt for me. It's too scattered -- there's no one good site you can go to in order to get everything you need to play and enjoy it for hours.
Instead, you need to browse such-and-such user's forum in some obscure corner of cyberspace to download a new sound effect to replace the hum-drum reaction jet sound effect that sounds like someone blew into a microphone for two seconds... then you discover that it takes forever to actually fly anything or fly anywhere in the space shuttle so you have to search Google for some "easy" sci-fi ships. Then you realise that the planet is boring so you go download some 120 MB planet textures, only to discover that they're only sampled at an extra level of detail. =) [ad infinitum] |
You speak truth, but that makes trying to pull a crazy ivan in a firefly no less fun.
|
What would you want this Fireflyesque game to be like? Asteroids style zoom around the map and shoot at all the revers and alliance in sight? Escape Velocity Nova's style of various planets and moons as starports where you try to scratch out a living? An RPG? What do you have in mind?
