If you count the amount of people who would like the cost lowered, its be high. Then, yet again, they only care for their own good. They do not care about BYONDs fate, spening $18 instead of 25 would make it easier for them, but harder for bYOND. This is why only retards go by number of supporters when it comes to lowering the cost. Falacy made over 10000 off byONDs DML, however he moans about $25 for membership. Smh

Yeah, there's no way I can argue down the price. Don't even want to, it's not* my product and if I don't like it I can merely not buy it. What I'm getting at is it's reasonable to think "I can't really spring for 24$ as a random gift", while still thinking "18$ isn't too bad as a random gift." The tone (would that be the right word?) that EmpirezTeam took to Falacy and Popisfizzy is what I took issue with.
E: Also Avainer's. Calling people who disagree with you retards is harsh, man. |
SqueakyReaper - Calling people the R ward isn't harsh, it's downright childish if he can't get his point across without having to insult somebody or people. As the prices, I don't see anything wrong with them, in my opinion they aren't particularly high priced. I'm not exactly in a good financial situation as well and I can say that it isn't even that high.

Well I'm apart of the 1% so I actually can. Well, Mr. 1% Share the wealth helping out BYOND shouldn't be to bad I mean, what you've got 24 bucks to spend on frivolities don't you? |

The downside to using outside portals is that you won't get the same kind of initial player counts you can get on BYOND Do what now? When did BYOND games get respectable player counts? Anyway, my point wasn't that memberships should be cheaper, its actually that they should be more expensive, just with shorter time period options. $5 for a month. |

DarkCampainger wrote: I guess I didn't phrase that very well. What I was trying to say was that players on BYOND are more trusting of BYOND games, and more likely to give it a try than a random passerby on the internet would. I said "initial", because once your game starts to grow its reputation, the stigma of downloading a random EXE from the internet starts to affect it less. |

Instead of going that route, I'd suggest allowing non-members to "buy" select features--or moving away from the membership model altogether. For example, since much of the hubbub is about creating hub entries, BYOND could charge non-members $2-$3 to create a hub entry. In my opinion, micro-transactions for little things like hub entries and personal forums are the way to go. |
Another possible way BYOND could turn a profit is through a fiscal-motivated feature request system. It's pretty clear that the staff spends a lot of time trying to keep BYOND developers happy by expanding on BYOND's feature set. Instead of a vote-up feature request system, I'd prefer a system to where I could donate money to certain feature requests. It would be really cool if they could set this up in a similar fashion as kickstarter.com.

I'm not convinced micro transactions are the way to go. They just feel... iffish to me, I guess. Perhaps as a side option; "I don't want a membership, I just want a hub." They can then purchase one for 3$, and have infinite edits on that hub, but would have to purchase another one if they want a new hub or a membership? I dunno, as long as it's not the only method.
I think my main gripe would be nixed if you had an ~8$ for 3 months option though. Eight dollars feels small enough that I'd be willing to toss that around. E: I think that's exactly what you said, haha. Sorry for being redundant. |
