Took about 5 hours to do (mainly due to messing up twice and having to reconfigure the setup both times), but I finally completed my homemade Wii Sensor bar.
Picture 1 - Comparison of the 2-2 IR emitters of my homemade sensor next to the 5-5 IR emitters of the standard Wii sensor bar.

Picture 2 - Close up of the homemade sensor bar. It doesn't look pretty but it gets the job done.

That's pretty neat. How much does a sensor bar cost, and how much did it cost to buy the materials for that?

I don't think Nintendo sells the sensor bar separately yet also while there have been rumors of third party companies making standard equivalents of what I made, there is nothing yet on the market. The total cost of the goods I bought (I already had a Soldering Iron at home to use so that saved me about $10) was $27.31. You could probably get a slightly cheaper price if you scrooged on the amount of solder and hook up wire you got (I got a 60 ft. spool of the wiring). |
