Has anyone else ever heard of (or perhaps done) NaNoWriMo?
It's National Novel Writing Month. Every November, people try to write a novel of 50,000 words. I participated last year, but didn't even hit 2,000 words, if memory serves. (I'm going to make it, this year. Last year, I got sick and was grounded from the computer. This year, I'm making it.)

Anyway, I've decided that next month, I'm doing NaNoGaMo!
...yes, National Novel Game Month. Shh. I made it up. And it sounds better than NaGaMaMo.
Next month, I'm setting a goal to complete at least one game on BYOND.
(To be honest, I wanted to complete 1.5 games. Do one game to a state where I could never update it again, and another to the state of a playable demo. But, that seems a bit too lofty of a goal for me.)

You see, most of the time when I tried making a game, I got caught up in worrying about tiny things.
For goodness' sake, I stopped working on a game because I didn't know what order to make it in! x_x;

But, as the NaNoWriMo saying goes: "Don't worry about writing well. Just write."
And, I think I should apply that to more things; especially things that can be fixed later on.

I may have no idea what I'm doing, or where to start, next month. But, at least I'll be getting something done, finally.

Because, seriously: I have got to get over this hang-up.
Good luck but you wouldn't see me writing 50,000 words anytime soon =)
Quality over Quanity.
Remember that.
I've thought about doing NaNoWriMo, but it would be utterly redundant as it's hard to think of a month when I -don't- write 50,000 words. :P Well, last few months I slowed down a bit. Anyways, I'm thinking of participating if I can clear my docket to the point where I have 24 hours I can spend uninterrupted and undisturbed, and do my whole novel in one day. :P (Just over 2,000 words an hour... just barely doable.)
I don't see the motivation to write for this thing though. They may just steal your novel idea and publish it as their own. Is there even a prize?
Perhaps you could continue with your Paradise Falls story. I did eventually get around to subscribing to that, only to find it wasn't being updated. The nice filks at that site, though, offered to switch my subscription to another story, to which I declined.

I wish I could write well enough to convey a whole novel without losing my mind. I tried writing a big story once, it never really worked out. Well, the typewriter i used was a pain, and I didn't exactly have an outline or plan off attack. Well, other than sit and bash keys until something readable presented itself.

Good luck with your story, Blu. And for the love of everything pink, update your gender icon. ;P
I beat the original Double Dragon on one quarter using that same method... and I think you mean Nazareth Falls. :P Yeah, I didn't have what you would call a "positive experience" with the editor on that site, which I'd rather not get into. I don't know if I'm ever going to be in the mood for that story again.
And Death, it's hard for them to steal your novel when entering means posting it for all the world to see. :P The "prize" is people knowing you wrote a 50,000 word novel in one month.
