I do not recall exactly how this worked in Generations, however like most items the Quality Percentage also affects the Durability, meaning that the item could be destroyed by a strong enough punch or energy attack.
I think, it would be interesting, however, to have it so Ships and Pods, and maybe even other items have damageable engines, space vacuum protection and things like that. The chances of that happening could decrease with higher Quality Percentage, naturally, making it so early wipe if a player that already has the coordinates of each Planet could still be at an advantage, just because the technology is still new.
I think this idea could make it so space travel, specially when just unlocked can be more interesting, and also a way to encourage people to invest in space suits
A more formulated suggestion would be as such:
-Divide the ships and pods into different sections, each with their properties and QPs%, such as: engine; oxygenation; exterior; interior; etc, these are examples.
Damage:
-Damage to Engines: can happen from the vessel being hit or a random chance higher at lower QP% while it's in space, it could make it harder to move it or make it so the player loses control and it could land you in a random planet.
-Damage to Exterior: can happen from the vessel being hit or a random chance higher at lower QP% while it's in space, making so the player can be slowly sucked out of it because of a compromise on the exterior.
Repairs:
-They can be made at the spot or when the vessel is stationary by a technician. They could work just like repairs already do, updating the QP by half the price or something else and refilling the values.
(Perhaps if a lower QP technician repairs a part that had higher QP beforehand there can be a compromise made just for survival.)

-1. Doesn't add anything interesting to the game, and only adds artificial complexity to a very minor mechanic of the game.
|
-1 because im going to camp outside your ship and throw rocks at it until it breaks and every saiyan inside dies in space ahahahahahahahahaha

TBH the only thing that needs to be added to space ships (and maybe pods??) Is the ability to break the door. (Yes this was a feature added into DBG just not to pods)
