Good lord I hate this thing.

OK, guess what? My good computer is on the fritz. Maybe it's worse than that. Last night my antivirus told me there was a major update, so I installed it. When it finished, it told me to press "Yes" to restart. Well I was done with the computer for the night, and pressed "No" so I could just shut it down myself. Now I am unsure weather this that is related to the current problem or not, but here is what happened this morning. I turn the computer on. All is fine. I get to the Windows XP user selection screen. All is fine. I select my name and enter the password. BSOD'd!!!

Now my usual corse of action after a BSOD is to restart the computer (which is what the OS would do for me if I hadn't disabled it). So I hit the power button, and it goes off. Only something is different. The light on the front turned off. This light never turns off unless it is blinking, or the power goes out. Well the power isn't out. So I shrug it, and press the button. Nothing happens... at all.

So now I have a computer that won't even feed itself electricity. What's worse, is that I had 2 YEARS of un-backed-up programming and internet surfing stored in it! I think I know what the first thing I'll do is once/if I get it working. Now I think I recall hearing of something in computers (a fuse?) to help protect against surges or something. I'm no hardware expert. Perhapse this thing just blew? Is it replacable? How do I replace it? What do I replace it with? And since it is Thanks-for-nothing-giving, Best Buy isn't open. SOMEONE HELP ME BEFORE I GO INSANE! ... sorry.

So unless I can get this fixed, I've lost all my War files. Spike, you better start praying this I can repair this.

Any tips and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
You're on the computer now aren't you? If you lost your files just do a system restore.
No, I'm not. I'm on our secondary computer. The good one won't even flicker when I push the power button.

Hahah, check it out. This thing has Windows ME and Internet Explorer 5.
This happened to me a few months back. I think your powerbox exploded, at least that's what happened to me.

<_<;
Any idea why this would happen?

How can I check?
Definately sounds like some piece of hardware kicked the bucket. On the bright side, it probably wasn't your hard drive, which means you can just slap the hard drive in another computer and get all of your files back.
If it doesn't even power up, then its either an issue with your power supply or an issue with your motherboard (or something else that I forgot about).

You could just buy another power supply, some come as cheap as $20 but quality ones cost at least $40 (Not even high end either).

Buying replacement motherboards on the otherhand is a bigger hassle. With power supplies, you just need to make sure you have 4-pin connectors (There are 4-pin to SATA and 4-pin to PCI-E cords out there) and a compatible power connector for your motherboard. 20+4 pin should be compatible with all modern motherboards.

You might want to get it checked out.
