WTH? So, apparently creepy old guys flock to young women and hot women flock to the young guys? I don't want to condone this behavior, but I know when I was 17, I would have hardly felt like a victim if an attractive female teacher had made advances. Heck, I kinda feel sorry for any woman has any encounter with the ball of hormones that is a 17 yr old male....

I don't understand people who think that these boys feel like victims anyway. The teachers must be extremely desperate.
|
So what if it was an ugly woman having sex with the student? Or a handsome guy with a school girl? Does physical attractiveness suddenly change whether or not it's statutory rape?
|
The real question is: does it being statutory rape make it actual "rape" rape?
|
Well, I don't think US law gives a crap whether or not the student enjoyed it.
|
I don't see how a guy can get raped, aren't they suppose to be forced to? I'd think the student would like it.
|
It's statutory rape, BlackSheep. That means that even if he wanted it, because of their ages, it still counts as rape.
|
Oh, my bad, didn't understand the word statutory, should have probably looked it.

I like how they put double quotes around the word "kissing" in that article.
They were "kissing". No, I mean they were... "kissing". "KISSING." |
Australian kissing.
DOWN UNDER AHAHHAHA i'm so funny (also i hope nobody has done that joke before) |
First time I've heard it!
(I was going to use the tongue smiley, =P, there but then I realised it's probably not appropriate.) |
Australian kissing, that's a hoot. Sorta like Armageddon where Ben Affleck is recreating an African educational documentary, and tucks the animal cracker cookie underneath the hem of Liv Tyler's underwear while saying "way down under". ;-)
Has anyone heard about the fourteen-year-old boy who got his teacher pregnant? She was convicted of statutory rape, lost her job, and went to prison. When she got out of prison, she and the boy hooked up again. What did people think of the affair? "Well, now that he's older, I don't see anything wrong with it." It's stupid. This kid and this teacher quite obviously loved one another, or at least were faithful to each other. When he's young, it's assumed she is taking advantage of him. When he's older and they're still together, there's no apologies, just a bunch of "oops, our bad, maybe they really did love one another". The system once again discriminates against children (in this case, in reverse, by punishing someone other than the child) -- no surprise there. I'm actually rather proud of Canada's fourteen-year age of consent. By the time someone hits fourteen years of age, they still have a few years of physical growing to do, but they don't have much more mental maturing to do. I can say quite certainly that while I'm quite a bit less innocent now, I'm still the same person, behaviourally, as I was eight years ago. Obviously, of course, there's a big difference between forced consent ("if anyone asks, you like this and you want it") and mutual consent, and it's pretty difficult to work out the kinks (no pun intended) in that part of the system. I had a teacher who had a crush on me, I think, in grade 11. She gave off a certain vibe -- could've just been empathy, since this was shortly after I broke my arm, but I dunno... seemed like she cared a little more than just plain empathy. However, I kept my distance. She was decently cute -- mid-to-late twenties or very-early thirties, average appearance -- but not my type and I wasn't interested. I wouldn't see anything wrong with a relationship with her if we actually liked each other, however. |
Well, I would question the mental faculties of any adult who is lusting after and 11-13 year old. Of course, I also think it a bit bizarred to imprison people like the example you cited (where the guy is now, apparently trying to have a family with the former teacher). I guess the idea of grown men going after underage girls is far more troubling to me than women pursuing underage males. Perhaps it is a bit sexist, but the consequences are potentially far higher for the girls (pregnancy comes to mind), though I do understand that both groups are emotionally vulnerable. Maybe it's because I am biased from my own experiences, but I just don't feel that 16-17 year old boys need all that much protection from women. Quite the oppossite, actually! I imagine my reaction as a father to hearing about a male teacher messing with my daughter would be rage; hearing about my son having some fun with a hot teacher? Probably the "protection" reminder.
Of course, the fact that many of these women are married makes the actions reprehensible.... |
There was adultry. There was questionable use of authority. However, there was no statutory rape.
It is statutory rape only if there is one member below and one member above the age of consent. Seventeen is perfectly legal in many US states, including Colorado (where the story takes place). You just can't film the sex until all members are 18 or over. |
