It was made when I hated the stupid forever-constapated scenes of DBZ, in particular the Saiyan saga when Vegeta and Nappa came (and then some).

It does not mean or refer to 'Ghost in the Shell' (I really have to watch the movie of it).

GhostAnime was meant to refer as 'Death of Animation' (Ghost => Dead beings, Anime => Animation)... >_> Well that and people who watches anime usually becomes zombies and thus are considered dead (I am looking at you Pokemon for causing this.)

Now you know <_<
The Saiyan scene has NOTHING on the part where Goku fights Frieza. At one point Frieza hits the planet itself, and he says it ought to blow up in 30 minutes. I think it took two weeks before it finally split apart.

Edit: Wikipedia says 5 minutes. That makes it even worse.
<STANDARD DBZer EXPLANATION>

The two of them are moving at incredible rates of speed, therefore all of the stuff we see them doing during that "5 minutes" actually is crammed into a shorter period of "DBZ time" than the episodes take in real time!

Plus, the episodes are interspersed with footage from other goings-on... You can't count these other scenes as part of the total time, as they are actually happening during the fight action... Obviously, though, all of these events can't be shown to us simultaneously, so they have to be shown sequentially, which makes it seem like more time is transpiring...

In addition, the "5 minutes" is just Frieza's estimation based upon Namek's size and makeup... Frieza has done this to many other planets (most notably, the Saiyan homeworld of Vegeta), so he does know what he is talking about... However, he's no psychic, so perhaps he was a bit off in his time frame...

Related to the above, it has also been theorized that the Ki energy on and within a planet has an effect on its resistance to the sort of doomsday chain reaction set off by Frieza's attack... Either Namek itself was some sort of super-charged planet (not entirely out of the question, seeing the mystic powers of its inhabitants, including the ability to create Dragon Balls), or it was feeding off of the immense powers of those on it...

And then we've got the "real world" explanation... DBZ is taken virtually word-for-word, scene-for-scene from the Manga (animation-studio-added filler notwithstanding)... Obviously, there's a problem here... When you're creating an animated work based off of source material in still-panel comic form, there's a LOT of padding to be added... You need to take scenes from the comic that might have only been one panel, and turn them into flowing animation... For instance, an attack that is simply shown as an extended fist with some motion lines in a single panel of the comic has to be turned into the entire sequence of motion of the character's entire body... You also must tie this motion in with the previous actions, and subsequent actions... Again, whereas the comic might have shown the fighter standing still in one panel, the punch in the next, and maybe a kick in the third, you now need to fill that out with not only animations for each action, but also the transitions that come between...

This leads to on-screen footage that takes up WAY more real-world time than the manga took to even read (of course, the corresponding time frame in the manga isn't exactly a 5-minute read, but meh)

Taking all of these factors into account, there's nothing really wrong about "5 minutes" taking up two weeks' worth of 20 minute episodes...

[Edit:] Sorry, I couldn't resist ; )

Yeah, it was 5 minutes. Though, I loved it back then...

The 'Minute of Desperation' was an entire episode.
I strangely found the Freiza saga more satifying and time-passing than the saiyan saga... probably because Krillin got killed (again) >_>''
I'm so sorry for derailing your thread, GhostAnime. :<
It's no problem >_>'
