If you think that this post is about the ranking system, then you should go back and read it again. In no way am I trying to say anything that hasn't already been said about the ranking system.

"The ranking system has always been a travesty. Did it really take a crappy Naruto game hitting #1 for people to realize it?"

o rly?

Expressing my shock over the fact that after so much talk about the ranking system people are still up in arms about a Naruto game hitting #1? Yeah, read it again pal.
Odd how much "Did it really take a crappy Naruto game hitting #1 for people to realize it" sounds like your just saying what you've already said with this: ""3.) The death of the ranking system. BYONDers are beginning to realize that the ranking system doesn't say anything about the quality of a game. Now we just need to get a formal user-review system in place..."
in this post.
The Naruto subculture on BYOND is made up mostly of people who don't frequent the main site. These are mostly new people, who havn't gone beyond their first game. In other words, dispite it's low quality, Naruto is pulling in new people, that's the power of fan games. In order for our games to become popular, we have to more actively advertise, especially beyond BYOND, and beyond the internet.

On that note, why not try out Plunder Gnome?

Now you're just grasping at straws. You can try and twist my words all that you'd like... but they're there for everyone to see. What's the point of what you're trying to say again?

That people need to shut the fuck up about the ranking system and get on with their lives.

Haha... I just need to say that I love this "plug" campaign that you're on. I'm totally going to have to try that game the next time I'm on my pc.
Yeah, if you check the key creation date for people in Naruto games, they are fairly new.

And if this sentence didn't say something to that effect, then I need to go back to college and take some more english classes:

"The ranking system has always been a travesty. Did it really take a crappy Naruto game hitting #1 for people to realize it?"
Well, in order to go back to your lives, if I'm not mistaken, you need to stop talking about it. Just put down the the thought of the ranking system and go back to working on something at least semi-constructive. You brought it up again, so, even thought your sentence said to stop it, you're still dwelling on it.

Okay... but then why did you step in and comment on my post at all, especially in relation to the ranking system?

You've just argued against posting everything that you've said in this discussion in the first place.
Tell me the last time someone stopped doing something without another person arguing against it?

Yes, you said that somewhat, but there's no need for a damned blog post on it.

So you agree that something has to be said, but that a blog post wasn't necessary... just blog comments? Oh boy. I'm done with this particular discussion.
The blog post was here and about the ranking system. If you just took off the latter part, everything would be fine.
Looks like you guys both fundamentally agree, arguing about the wording of it is somewhat silly.
I'd say that this post is more about the lack of proper BYOND administration than it is about the ranking system.

I brought this concept up on another of Silk's threads.

"Furthermore, BYOND was defeated by this very same game. Bolts spammed BYOND with support forms under the instruction of Goditz when their hub was suppressed; consequently, BYOND allowed this game to continue to exist."

BYOND allowed a bunch of random fools to annihilate them, and they've done nothing since to deal with the problem.

Either way, the intelligent developers and players should hold themselves above the crowd, and not participate in flawed systems and concepts. Be the best players, be the best developers, and perhaps your actions will motivate others to be the same way.

While it sounds simple, that process is slower than is desirable. A person has to want to change before he'll start to do it, and if he doesn't think there's anything wrong with himself (which can be common) then he'll see no benefit, no goal, no reason to change.

Discussions regarding the ranking system reminds me of election debates. People want you to vote/rank this way or that if you don't like how the current ranking is displayed. Well, I show my lack of interest with my lack of voting altogether.

Wow, I didn't know about this. I swear, BYOND has no idea how to deal with their userbase.

My current plug campaign is directly related to my own investigation of the ranking system, a blog post about which can be found here:

Though I don't care about Plunder Gnome's rank, I do care about people having fun, and there being people for me to play with when I log in. Though the ranking system is 'flawed' in that it doesn't showcase quality games, or represent BYOND users proportionally, it is still a useful diagnostic tool. What I've concluded is that Naruto and DBZ (and Duel Monsters, there just hasn't been a similar rip crisis to bring them to the forefront) games are able to draw from a potencial user base I don't currently have access to.

It's not that idiots are drawn to poorly made games, it's that the Naruto cartoon's audience is actively seeking out Naruto games, which are only represented on BYOND by rips. It only takes a look at the number of players logged into NBotLS (pronounced 'N-bottles', for anyone still wondering) to discover that the game is receiving more publicity than currently going around on BYOND.

I've tried to make that clear for weeks now to all kind of people, that the rank says something about popularity and not the quality. it's exactly the same as what you say, but I believe that both are true.
