Kay, my official but not very long rant on kids these days. Whats with this fad of openly asking to be a Game Moderator? It's work. It's work you do for free. Why would you want this responsibility placed upon yourself? Because you think it's all fun, games, women and respect. Let me fix the delusions you children have been having.
It's not fun. You have to deal with people. You can't just say "STFU NUB" and thats that. You have to listen to peoples inquiries and problems. Its annoying, not fun.
It's not a game to see who can ban more then who. Having that kind of attitude is childish. A Game Moderator is there to protect the players who want to have fun, from the players who want to screw everything up.
There are no women.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no respect. What you gain is the opposite of respect. People hate you. Your the equivalent of a policeman on an online game. The only reason anyone would even act like they like you is because they think you have the ability to grant "pl booztz". You don't.
As soon as you ask to be an Game Moderator, you show you want it, for the wrong reasons. An excellent example of my methods can be found in the "Chronicles of Narnia". The Lion King, Aslan, never chose a king who thought they could do it. He picked people who weren't sure they were ready for the responsibility, meaning they weren't thinking of the gains, they were concentrated on what would need to be done. That is how I and(I hope) most Game Owners choose their staff. Please keep this in consideration from now on. Thank you.
P.S.: The new version of Firefox kicks ass, it has a built in spell check!

True, although it's not fun for most, I quite enjoy helping people out. It can get a little intolerable though.
|
I refuse to be Moderator/Administrator/GM/MGM on any game. I've had the job before and it's just to stressful. Having over 7 people shouting for you to help them out is fucking horrible, not to mention how they run around behind your back and tell lies to other staff.
Also, nobody ever got anything by asking. If you ask a teacher for an A grade on a test, you don't get it. You earn it. |

Yeah so, I am a Moderator on Megaman Wars. And I have to put up with everyones bullshit, but hey I have to do it. It's my job to get rid of noobs and other people that suck.

You say it is a fad, which suggests that it is a shot term trend. I suggest you look around. People have wanted power since the dawn of time, even if it is an imaginary status title. Furthermore, most of these "n00bs" you speak of only wish to be GMs for their self-interest. I am willing to bet that your GM netiquette rant means shit to most of the people you are referring to.
As for picking a Moderator who thinks that he or she may not succeed. Why in God's name would you condone such a thing? It is one thing to want to get things done, however picking a Moderator based on such a criteria is a serious logical fallacy. |
I've administrated Icon Ultima for the better most of two years. I'm forced to say, the only thing that's been anoying about it, is the fact -some- players break the rules, even after you've asked them not too.
The player enquiries aren't a problem. And administration is hardly work. I think of myself of quite a good Administrator, and I've banned more than my fair share of people, and I don't get "YOU SUCK!" from everyone when I enter the game <.< Administration isn't hard, or work. It's just making the right decision at the right time. |
I was actually a moderator for Icon Chatterz for quite some time, as I sometimes dropped in there for feedback on my work, and Arthosa saw that I could handle a big gaggle of tards pretty well.
After a while, everyone hated me, but a lot of people really respected what I did. I eventually got tired of it, and quit, but it was basically ban three people a day, ban their alternate keys, rinse and repeat. No matter how many warnings you issue some people, they just want to bypass your authority. I HATED the admin system I was forced to work with, and even gave Arthosa a better one that I had made, but apparently he didn't want to use it, and so, administration was three times as hard. |
Icon Ultima administration is easy. Wiznet took care of any alternate keys on any and all repremanding actions. Spam Sentinel took care of general text spam.
All I had to do was approve long renames and ban users who just didn't get the idea. I banned one user, every two days. And no one disrespected me. Only users I was about to ban. -- edit I suppose administration difficulty is based on the competence of the programmed admin system. |
