Ok, before I tell you my problem, let me tell you about myself, and my life. Im 17, im a senior at severna park high school, I wrestle for my school(Not Varsity, Maybe this year thow), My dads a doctor, my moms a radiologist tech., my brothers a P.A., and my sisters and ultrasound tech. training. Both my brother and sister graduated from University of maryland.
I would say im a popular kid, I go to partys and such on weekends, so im friends with all the football/laccross players. But I also am not an ahole to the computer crowd. Becuase I myself also play computer games. Which my friends dont know. So im an all around nice guy to people. Im in pretty good shape, im 5'10, 175 pounds.
Now for the problem...
My high school gpa is a 1.9, my sat scores were a 900 with combined math and critical reading. I got my licence in june, and I got into an accident in early august. And then in one AGAIN TODAY! So im not aloud to drive for who knows how long... I wrestle but not on varsity, which basically means that im not a wrestler. Iv never gotten good grades. It just seems that im not good at anything... All my friends are going away to college in a few months, I just dont know. I cant think of one thing that people will call me great for. And the accident today really made me feel worthless, and just like a f**ck up, because both accidents were my fualt, i rearended the person while i wasnt paying attention. Everyone in my family is respectable, my brother has one of the strongest personallitys that i know of, he doesnt take s**t. Im not really like that. I just dont know what im going to do. Im not even sure were im going to be in the next year becuase of this college situation, i dont want to be stuck at the community college but what college would accept me with a 1.9( and i cant go out of state, and iv already looked at all the colleges in state, i live in maryland). I am not the most responsible person. I just....dont know.

Hey, a fellow SPHS'er...well at least I was one.
Anyways, can't say much about your current situation grade wise but don't assume you can't rebound from it. I went from a meddling B- student in high school to the solid A student I am in college with some effort. Also, don't think the community college isn't that great, AACC (I'm assuming thats the one you're talking about) is one of the best CC's in the nation and the faculty is just as good if not better than those found in some universities in the state (Some faculty at AACC on their off days are teaching classes at the big name universities). Add to that that it is affordable (my tuition for my part-time schedule is usually about $1-1.2k per semester) and you've got yourself a win-win situation. Just because life isn't treating you well currently doesn't mean you can't straighten things out. Anyways, good luck. Edit: Quick question, is the principal still a complete and utter stick-up-his-ass prick? |
Haha, thats pretty crazy that you went to sphs to, and we have a new, gay principle, named dr. Hamilton. Mr Myers the old one left. What year did you graduate?
|
Man, this sounds like me. Except knock out the "in good shape" part and replace "not allowed to drive" with "no driver's liscence or learner's permit". That and I was never liked in school.
You're 17? I'm 22. :( I wish I could go back in time 10 years and give myself a good crack in the forehead with an aluminum baseball bat. Maybe if I had my ass beaten raw for not turning in homework assignments back then, I'd have actually completed high school. I'm the textbook definition of a stupid failure. |

Good riddance to Mr. Myers, he basically made our graduation ceremony into a Nazi Camp with the faculty acting as the Gestapo w/ binoculars, microphone lapels and all this other high-tech crap just because there was the 'threat' we'd pull out some beach balls and silly string and have some fun... I graduated in 2003, that year was a blast since we had so many snow days that our already short senior year was made even shorter. They even talked about making us stay an additional amount of time past the original middle of May graduation cause of it but nothing came of it. |

Dude, you're screwed up.
Heh, just kidding. Worrying about things isn't always good, it'd be best if you did more and worried less, the biggest mountain cannot be climbed if you say "it's too high", but it can by climbing. The car accidents may be unfortunate, but should not be a block on your path. And comparing yourself to others isn't the best thing to do in such a situation, though. |
Well, I'm a senior also so maybe I can help. My current G.P.A is a 4.5, but that's only due to Hon. and AP classes. I simply don't have any after school activities. Give them up, they usually will hold you back. I have heard many times that "I couldn't due my homework because of football practice" and the like.
Sure, it's nice and looks good on a college application, but a 1.9 G.P.A I can assure you looks really bad. Give up the sports and focus more on studying and getting homework done. It's boring, yes, but if you want to get your grade up then that's the way to do it. Spend three hours (roughly) every night doing your homework thoroughly. More if needed. Don't put something off because of a date or something, cancel it if you have to. I'd basically lose most of my social life until you get a safe G.P.A. at around 2.5. It'll suck but it will let you have more fun later in life. As for your accidents, ew. I don't drive personally as I see no need. I hardly go anywhere, but that's just me. As for you, I'd probably just try and drive safe. Don't go over the speed limit, always use your blinker, double check both ways before merging, etc. It's sounds childish, but I'd rather it sound childish than get in a wreck myself. As for your SAT score, you should know that if you take multiple SAT's that colleges only look at your highest results in all fields. Get a 400 on the math and 200 on the reading on one SAT and vice versa on another, then colleges only look at those two 400's for example. It's a great system. I'd consider taking it a few more times. If you need any more help the best way to contact me is through AIM. My account is Darkfirestatr. I hope my advice helps you get better in school. College is one of the most important things in your life and it'd suck if you couldn't attend it because your were short a half point or so. |
Well, jocks = assholes, you people dont amount to anything, I have a 3.5 grade point average and am going to MICA or Digipen, havent decided yet =)
(PS MICA = In Maryland) |
Wrong, FFA pretty much doesn't know what he's talking about. If you have a decent GPA, extracurriculars are what makes or breaks an application. Colleges are looking for well rounded people, not the workaholics. I know people who had a 3.5 GPA and got into harvard because of all their extracurriculars.

That aside, I guess the real question here is what do you WANT to do with your life?
