Instead of editing, I decided to just post again, and again, ad infinitum. Why is that?
For the simple reason that more people will notice the updates
Anyway, in this one I'll cover two more shows, and you get to hear yet again the POINTED (Yes, it's not pointless! And can impale people! Wow, my humor is GREAT!) rantings of an otaku who just can't wait for his next con. ONWARDS!
Death Note
Okay, so I just started reading this and just HAD to post about it. How do I have enough information to post about it after having started reading it less than 24 hours ago? Obsession. I've read over 20 chapters and my homework is still getting done.
In case you haven't heard about it (This is more directed at non-otaku), in Death Note there are two worlds - The human world, and the shinigami (Death God) world. The death god world isn't the setting of the story really...Oh well. Anyway, in the shinigami world there are (obviously) shinigami. They have these books called Death Notes. One of them drops their death note and...Ah, screw it. If you really want to know, got to http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/Death_Note . I don't have room to explain the plot.
So anyway, I really like the way the plot is executed. I mean, think about it. A guy who gains the ability to kill people (and normally only uses heart attacks) through writing on a book? A battle of wits (Be honest, battles of wit are damn HARD to do well), and two people who are sore and stubborn loosers? Toss in the world government, and you've got a 99% chance of making it to the crap pile. But, think about it MORE. What would happen if the above plot was executed well enough to be that 1%? How damn KICK-ASS would a manga like that be? I'll tell you how much. About as kick-ass as you can GET. But then, that's my opinion. Want to try it out? Give http://www.stoptazmo.com/death_note/ a look.
The only downside to this series I can really see is that, at the point I'm at now it looks like it could easily end...But there are about 80 more chapters. So it could quite easily drag out a lot...Ah well, just have to see...The rest is just the standard stuff that goes with things that were released on a weekly basis, as in simplistic art. But no one really cares about that anyway, do they?
Wow...That much space taken up already? Only half way through, too. But I will move onwads, though I would actually enjoy raving on about Death Note even more (By the way, I decided to go to my next convention as either L or Kira. And I just started the series yesterday. I think that speaks for itself).
And, the next series to go is probably going to be the next big thing at the cons. If you're an otaku, you probably know what I'm talking about...
Bleach
Yes, yes. As evidenced by my title, part two has anime/manga that contain shinigami. And this one has definitely earned every single fan it has. In fact, it should have twice as many fans. I don't read the manga, because right now I don't want to spend the effort to download when I can watch the perfectly good episodes (On YouTube, of course).
Anyway, on to why this series is worth checking out, and where it could improve:
Animation
This is timed pretty well, but the lipsynching always seems a little off to me. Doesn't matter THAT much, though. I love how the fact that every soul slayer has a special ability allows for the animators to create some pretty unique stuff. Really impresses me, how different each weapon is. The animation staff of the anime are further shown to have quite good abilities without guidelines, as the Bount filler was animated quite nicely as well.
Sound
It impresses me, to a degree. Nothing ground-breaking, but nothing horrible, at all...The voice actors are rather suited to their role for the most part. Though Lilin's voice pissed me off at first...Wanted to strangle her x.x
Plot
The plot of both the manga and the anime (referring to filler) was very nicely done. It integrated a nice array of different settings, as well as having a few well planned out intricacies (Wow, I love that sentence. I use so many big words. Go me!).
Characters
This was pretty good. The characters had decent backgrounds, though I really wish you'd learn more about their pasts. The few flashbacks scattered throughout are well-done, though.
What annoyed me about the characters was Kon. Not his being there, but rather his knack of not being there. For example, it would have been really awesome if he had come to Soul Society to help save Rukia. What anime is an anime without the pervert? Those animes which were good, but that we grew out of when we were 12. Enough said. He's a great comedic character, and I really would enjoy seeing him pop up in the story more.
Well, until next time. This is Byond's resident non-n00b blog otaku, signing out. Well, okay. ONE of Byond's resident non-n00b blog otakus.
