Yes. Yes, I am going there. Anime. My anti-drug D=

So yeah, this post is about anime, and how much some series rock, how much some suck, and how much some series are getting screwed over because the dub is about as different from the original as a baby is from a level 9999 ladybird in FF Online. Don't get me started on the damage those can do...

First off:
Dragon Ball Z.
Indeed. Now, I'm not just another 'ranter'. I like to have a POINT behind my rants. Thus, I will explain as in-depth as possible.

Well, I don't doubt that DBZ started off on good footing. I mean, it follows a standard shoujo formula, right? No one watching the first 20 episodes or so can really say with conviction that it starts out sucking. But, the problem lies with the LENGTH OF THE SERIES. And the fact that MOST (I say most, as there are a few exceptions) series that go on for hundreds upon hundreds of episodes are designed to milk every last cent out of their fans. So once they get an idea, probably about fifty or so episodes in, the start. And it gets repetitive. And they keep going, and going, and going - until the ratings dip. After that they just end the series wherever it was, basically insulting the few loyal fans remaining. That's why I hate marketing schemes; they can ruin such great things. I think, next, I'll cover an exception to this rule.

One Piece.
Ah, yes, probably my favorite series. But, by the less otaku, or rather, the people who aren't really otaku but claim to be due to the fact that they're n00bs and don't know what otaku truly means, it SUCKS. Why would that be, you ask? Dubs. You get this great series -- The proud, the few, the long-ass anime series that don't try and milk every last cent from the fans -- and the dubbers go and make the worst possible job ever...By trying to turn a series based off of Luffy beating other pirates up into a CHILDRENS SHOW. Yes, you heard me right. A CHILDRENS SHOW.

Luckily for those who actually ARE otaku, we know to watch subs. Ask anyone who's seen a sub of One Piece, and I can guarantee they'll have more positive than negative comments about it. So, in all seriousness, if you get a spare moment, go to YouTube and watch the dub that never was, but with text at the bottom instead of voice acting. You'll be lauging soon enough.

Well...This entry is getting pretty long. So, that's all for now - I'll update this entry later.
If you think One Piece is bad, try checking out the dub for Cardcapture Sakura.
I don't see the appeal in subs. While you don't get the editing of the violence and sex of some shows, it just seems to be off put by having to read all the dialouge with crazy, high pitched moonspeak in the background.
High five for liking One Piece.
To Nesso: I get your point, and I felt that way at first too. But if you ever really really get involved, you start forcing yourself to watch subs (or learn Japanese). Eventually, you get used to it. It really isn't that great at first, but if you watch like 20 or so episodes it becomes natural to watch subs.
