If I were to ever use it, it would just to be to add a new class or something, which probably would be weaker than normal classes.

Why make it weaker?
Personally I don't see any problem in seperating the BYOND members from the BYOND proles. What, is difference in status taboo now? Developers should grow a pair and start discriminating... ;) |
Someone should make a game that keeps Byond members out instead! :D Since it'll be no surprise that a few will crop up that'll keep non-members out and all.
|
I expect jealous or pissed off non-members to actually make ones that keep byond members out.
Personally, I had no means to buy a membership either; I won mine by sheer luck. There are lots of generous Members out there willing to pay for non-members. What’s stopping them from contributing to the community and having one of those nice members go "Wow that person is awesome, -buys membership for them-" |

Some players who possessed more, or who were able to gather enough friends (three or four, perhaps) were assumed to be 'GMs' in the minds of some new players. This lead to a couple incidents where I would receive aggrivated pages from players telling me that they wouldn't be comming back to my game because, even though they liked the game, because they couldn't stand my 'GMs' or 'Friends.'
My point is that special treatment (even if it is only perceived) has, in my experience, almost always lead to the assumption that the person is in a position of authority.
If I were to annouce on the forums that my games would now give out special GM powers to anyone who reached an arbitrary level, or anyone who paid me a set amount, I would quickly receive many replies informing me that this was not a good idea whatsoever.
Unfortunatly, Byond member status is not a safegaurd against jerk status. More usfull to me would be an IsJerk() proceedure.
So, I don't know how I'm going to use this function, or if I will use it at all. If I do, it will be with great discretion.
