It's an unrealistic expectation in every regard. I'm doing nothing but pointing out the obvious. They're delusional if they're putting their future on that generic looking game. Why must you always bring up that some developers here do not make games? how is that even relevant to this case? I'm not judging anyone. Just saying it how it is. You seem frustrated for no particular reason. Could it be because you also failed at game development?

What's "obvious" to you clearly isn't obvious to others. I think FKI's main point is to mind your own business and let others live their short lives how they want to live them.

Goals are healthy and accomplishing something no matter how "mediocre" it seems to you might just bring them an abundance of happiness.

Oh, I'm quite sure it's obvious to most people too. How am I intruding into somebody else's business? It's not like I'm telling them what to do or whatnot. I'm not breaching anybody's privacy either. I don't think you know what "mind your own business" means. Do you not know the real world? these guys aren't going anywhere with that mentality. Yes, it might sound a little harsh, but that's reality for you. I am not telling anybody how to live their lives. Either you lack comprehensive reading skills or you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Oh, and good luck to these wonderful developers with porting their games out to consoles and getting it out there to the masses /sarcasm.

P.S fuck you.
c'mon guys, this ain't the philosophy thread. opinions are opinions and being that most BYONDers nowadays are stubborn, I don't think anyone will change theirs.
Did anyone actually think this thread was going to go any other way?

Ofcourse not, we been begging lummox to ban the toxic forum community for years now, as much as we like to only blame them, lummox is also to blame :)
I don't get the whole "you guys are being unreasonably cruel" thing.

They are the ones who went on a popular cable program and told the world that they're serious full time game developers who are striving to make the next big thing. And even mentioned console ports to make themselves look all the more serious.

The fact that at the end of the day what they're talking about is the most generic of generic BYOND abandonware games is something that only we here can fully understand and appreciate in its absurdity.

Not really trying to stomp on someones net dream or whatever. Just calling a spade a spade :P I've read a bunch of blogs and stuff about the episode where people all over mention the game making thing and how he's up and coming and shouldn't waste his precious time and lucrative game making career on the likes Ja'la. And I'm sure there will be a lot more of that sort of thing in the coming months as they release updates and recaps for the episode as well.

And to be honest...the real BYOND dev in this whole story could very well just be a member of the production staff. This show is known for being awfully scripted.

This speaks volumes coming from the guy who made this topic and shared laughs with YutPut on how ridiculous this whole thing is. What a hypocrite.

That's because you didn't grasp the "sarcasm" we we're using. :) XOXO!
i fully condone and approve of this thread, gj boys

There are important points here, the first being that there is nothing wrong with taking BYOND development seriously. Making a commercially successful game with BYOND is a completely realistic goal to have.

The second is this:

...So yeah, if this was a true depiction of a team trying to make a successful game then of course it's going to be ridiculed around here for looking like every other generic BYOND source code rip.

Bingo. There is no doubt that the producers chose to focus on the game development thing and make it a big part of the story. Even if the guy had only made a handful of sprites for the game at one point and didn't really care about it, the producers still would have run with the "hopeful indie game dev" storyline if that's what they felt made the best story.

That's JP. I don't know who Jaylin is though and that's as far as I'm going to go with searching.

He used to go by PigDugStudios before switching to RedCrownMG.

No it's not. BYOND is a horrible engine and has been holding developers back for over a decade. If it's a realistic goal, show me ONE DEVELOPMENT TEAM WHO HAS MADE ANY MONEY FROM THIS SITE! You can't, can you? That's because no one ever has! They're NON-EXISTENT, I TELL YOU! If only BYOND was open-source and brought back blogs to the site - THEN and only then will the promising developers with enormous potential on BYOND be able to spend more than 25 minutes on their projects.

Honestly, removing blogs was one of the best things BYOND could have done, and adding them was utterly naive. It really seems like Tom was far, far too amenable to just doing what was popular instead of what was actually a good idea.

BYOND is like an inbred family in the Ozarks finally getting a highway. Very unhappy.

Sure, it's a great mini goal. But you can't live off the donations, or can you? You're the only one on this site that's advertised your Dragon Warrior Quest like clone properly and is, was? Making some money off all of your progress.

There's no way in hell you're living off it unless you're getting a mad exchange rate and have a low cost of living.

And that's why it's unrealistic, people think they can live off making ONE good BYOND game and the fact is you can't.

The people that think that, in truth, aren't even capable of making a good game.
