Seriously, this is not a joke. Compared to Dragonball Z, Naruto is a godsend. Sure, both have alot of similiar qualities, and faults, but Naruto can actually be interesting to watch.
In DBZ, nearly every character fights the exact same. The only thing that ever really changes is the size of the enemy, the size of thier ki blasts and they usually have a SLIGHTLY different motion of swinging thier fist. Then they actually made a character that was a copy of everyone else, Cell. As if everyone didn't already fight the exact same, we have someone copying them. I will give credit for Janemba, he was different. A little. Point remains, you've sen one DBZ fight, you've seen em all.
Now Naruto, sure it borrows alot of story elements we've seen before, nothing new... And those Kyuubi transformations are extremely close to the idea that was Super Saiyan. But the fights! Just about every character that matters has some unique fighting style to everyone else. Even some not so important characters.
Rock Lee Vs. Temari would actually differ from Rock Lee Vs. Neji. Whereas Goku Vs. Gohan and Freeza Vs. Vegeta are basically the same fight.
See where I'm comng at with this? Just something for you Naruto bashing DBZ lovers =P
EDIT: There are still MUCH better animes. Like Tsubasa Chronicle.

They both suck!

Not the fights in Naruto, drawn out as they may be. Some were fun to watch and they came up with some interesting ideas for some fights.

I used to be an avid DBZ fan, back in the day. I *never* liked naruto, for good cause. The show sucks ass.
dbz 4 life! |
Naruto = Jutsu. Dragonball/Z/GT = Ki. Basically taking the same elements and using them in a slightly different way, as most if not all of Naruto's battles have some sort of Jutsu involved. DBZ = Naruto.

Essentially yes Eon as I so said, the point I am trying to make is that the techniques actually differ. Battles have interest. A DBZ fight goes something like this:
15 minutes: Bragging 10 minutes: I killed your father and or significant other or something related 20 minutes: You bastard! 2 minutes: fighting 30 minutes: ow 30 seconds: fighting in the air 15 seconds: shooting weak ass ki blasts at opponent that do nothing but sorta look cool and probably get out anger 30 minutes: More bragging asnd specific explanations as to why each and every punch and/or technique did not work 5 minutes: thats gay 5 minutes: I know, and heres why 2 minutes: fighting 2 hours: I think I'm dying 1 hour: oh wait, no I'm not. 3 hours: Wait... There it is *Dies* Rinse and repeat. |
You seem to be describing the Frieza fight there which isn't really fair since Akira Toriyama wanted to end it at Frieza but people demanded more so he had to change the plot around which in turn dragged the fight and accounts for the boring episodes that followed (although personally I enjoyed them).
The Goku vs Vegeta fight was awesome. |
I don't know anything about Naruto, although I personally enjoy the DBZ series up through the end of the Freiza saga.
DBZ is so perfectly tailored to be translated into a videogame, it's really shocking to see so many people fail at it. |
Naruto has some insane fights, and yes.... I was thinking about the Freiza fights. The old school Dragonball was nice when I was a kid, the adventures for the Dragonballs was great but they had to go and base it around martial arts more then the Dragonballs in Z.
Edit: I liked DBZ up until Goku vs Vegeta, and I guess I liked the "Krillin and Gohan constantly running for thier little lives on namek" episodes. But after that.... Not enough action =P |
I didn't mean DB/Z is about collecting dragonballs, well most of DB is but if we're talking about DBZ then yeah, it isn't. But it's not about the fights either - I'd go into some long explanation about what it is about but it's Friday.

Iv always hated dbz ALWAYS, i am a big fan of the original Dragonball though it's a classic. As for Naruto i think its just as bad as dbz in its prime.
Samurai Champloo is the only anime iv ever really liked and conpared to those other shows you mentioned i can't see why people still watch them. |
I think I like naruto a bit better, cause one someone dies, they don't get wished back with some balls.

Which is why I'm pleased your blog has managed to embody the very spirit of DBZ itself- two guys going "aaawhwhhh" for long periods of time and telling eachother how awesome and powerful they are. :) |
well, DBZ was kinda boring >.>.....
the only parts i liked was Cell VS everyone, and Goku Vs Vegeta and GT, WTF was that o_o Naruto on the other hand, it is similiar to DBZ/GT, but it has alot more shit in it, the fights arent all "AHHHHHHHHHHH OMEG IM SSJ48823923934823934 I PWN U NOW AHAHAHAHA" |
yeah, after the freiza saga...DBZ went to the pooper, whereas naruto is still decent(tha manga is, those fillers arent worth my time)
|
Naruto has much better pacing than DBZ. However, I consider Yu Yu Hakusho to be my favorite fighting anime. It seems like that series got the pacing just right. It's too bad that CN decided to play the last episodes so early in the morning.
