Implementing this feature is not possible now or in the foreseeable future
This is a dream feature, and doesn't in any way cause any real advantage to BYOND, but I do know of a few people who'd like it, so I'll post it and bump it this time next year, and then the year after that.

It'd make me so happy if the headers changed based off your forum complete-ness status. If you've read everything in a forum, turn the main header blue. If you're missing something in a sub-category, turn the header orange.

Pleeeeeeease.

The header blue is a completely different blue; it'd need to change to a new orange to work. But speaking personally, I'd absolutely hate to see the headers change color if a subforum was unread. No other forums do that to my knowledge, and I'm pretty sure the reason is it'd look terrible.
