I've been spending most of my free time in GS lately, because they just opened up a huge new expansion. This is good for BYOND; or rather, the fact that my friend has made maps of the expansion and allowed me to place them on my GS website is. I've gotten 2,000 hits over the past few days (I think I usually average about 200 a week) and brought in many new visitors who, I hope, will become repeat visitors once they see the other great content. And who will see my information about BYOND once I'm given the word to put it up.
I still have no clue, of course, but I'm beginning to think the influx of gemstoners to BYOND will be noticeable once I start advertising. And I and Lexy should get plenty of female company.
For Guy -- there's a dwarven town under the mountains that's pretty cool. I hear it takes 3 ranks of climbing to make it across the trail, so plan for it!

Hey, what is GS, anyway? I'm guessing it doesn't stand for "GladSlut." GemStone III, the biggest and most popular pay-for-play text-based MUD out there, as far as I know. I was going to give the free trial offer a whirl, but I and/or my parents don't have credit cards (which you need to sign up for the free trial, believe it or not). Which kinda stinks, if you think about it... http://www.simutronics.com http://gemstone.net/ |

GemStone III, the biggest and most popular pay-for-play text-based MUD out there, as far as I know. Yep, it's pretty neat. I'm about 100 points from reaching third level now. Once you acquire a certain amount of experience (about 10-15 minutes' worth of combat), you have to rest a while before gaining more--which means unless there's an event going on or someone interesting around, I usually listen to the other newbies yammer while resting up in a special increased-recovery-rate area, kill some rats, log off, and repeat a day or two later... |

During peak hours there are usually about 1400 players in the game, there's 7 towns now, it's medieval and stuff, and my main character is rather well-known, mostly due to my website, heh. I started playing in '95 but the game's been around for twice that long. It has its own culture and community and it's a practical institution. I play just about every evening. I definitely recommend the free trial. My GS website is here. Z |
