The following statement could very well offend some people
but again, it is something on my mind, and i gotta voice my opinion
Timothy McVeigh was executed by lethal injection on Monday for setting off a truck bomb in front of a federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995 that killed 168 people in the worst act of terrorism on U.S. soil.
How can us as people, decide a man's fate. How can we deicde who dies, and who lives? We are not God.
Although, the government decides to post the 10 commandments on every court house in the country, 1 of those commandments being thall shall not kill
but our justice system does not follow its own words
how can they post those 10 commandments and not follow them?
how can we decide the death of a man?
this is clearly fucking bullshit and i think that the government system sucks
but what can i do about it, nothing of course,
and quite frankly i am glad that the dude is dead, he killed massive people, 168 in fact,
but i am still against the death penalty by any means,
if God wants timothy to die, then so be it
otherwise, lock this man in jail, and leave him be

but i am still against the death penalty by any means, I don't like the idea of the death penalty either--too much opportunity for innocent people to be offed. Happens all the time. Well, not all the time, but enough to be pretty disturbing. Also, in many jurisdictions the prisoner doesn't even get a choice of how it's done. Lethal injection? What kind of a sissy execution method is that? Humbug! Having said that, though, there is a silver lining: "By executing the first federal death row prisoner in nearly four decades, the U.S. has allowed vengeance to triumph over justice and distanced itself yet further from the aspirations of the international community," the statement said. Yeah, I know what the "international community" aspires to: International Communism! U-S-A! U-S-A! |

International Communism! Funny how you stuck those two things in succession. ;-) * Spuzzum is the advocate of international communism, orbital weapons technology, and judo-learned simians. |
I agree. Not with all of your logic, nor the terms you choose to express it, but with your sentiment.
If 168 people dead is a tragedy, why is 169 dead people justice? If 1 person goes out and kills 99, that's mass murder. If 99 decide to kill the 1, that's... what? Democracy? Okay, let's say that Timothy McVeigh deserves to die. Let's say that every person on the face of the earth agrees with it. So we kill him. What have we established? That someone who kills 168 people can be executed? No, we've established that people can be executed simply if enough people agree that they should be. Think of it as the ultimate popularity contest. Don't think that's what it is? People's race, family background, and sexual orientation have all been used--successfully--by prosecuting attorneys as "evidence" during the penalty phase of trials (the part of the trial where they decide, basically, to lock you or shock you.) If you're the right type of person, you serve time... and if evidence comes along later that shows you're innocent, you're free. If not... sorry. Contact your local American Civil Liberties Union. They've got a couple of these going on already.

Just my Two Cents worth:
Notice how screwed humanity has become? we justify acts by doing the exact same thing. Justices is a lie, we're all ruled by our governments if we see it or not. Even media can only be half believed. Im looking at a picture right now bout the "Execution" media even, like dammit this wasnt a sports even but im seeing people cheer on the taking of a life with signs like "BUB-BYE TIMMY" and "THOU-SHA NOT-KILL AND LIVE!" Ive seen this kinda act at hockey and foot ball games but common now this is a execution! I bet they were selling hot dogs and pop too! Shows how well we as a race have come along eh? |

Shows how well we as a race have come along eh? You what's eerie? The elaborate rituals we go through for these executions: the last meal, the witnesses, the extreme measures we go through to save the lives of the condemned up until the appointed hour... differ only cosmetically from the rituals that the Aztecs used to prepare sacrificial victims. The people gathered and cheered for those, too. We don't have human sacrifice. We don't have gladiators. We don't have public crucifixions. The primary purpose served by executions is to indulge the public's taste for bloodletting. You take a misguided nutjob. Build him up into a monster of mythic purposes, turning a tragedy into a legend. Then you kill him. Voila. The government has turned itself into a modern-day dragonslayer, and given the people a good show for their money. Who says there are no heroes anymore? |
