I've been thinking about this lately, and I've come up with an idea to make a library to provide some sort of "donation" functionality that, rather than donating to the game developer, donates to Dan, Tom, or both. It's something I would like to put in my games, as I have no interest in making money from them myself, but I really would like to see BYOND succeed. I figured it would be nice and easy to implement, and easy to include in any game (just include the library file, that's it). But then I got caught up in trying to decide the best way to implement it. Do I just make it a "donate" verb that players can click on if they're curious? Do I put it in the game's welcome message? Do I have a random popup that comes up every few times you login, or every so often when playing? If so, how often? And how much to donate? Or should the player get to choose? Do I let the player choose between Tom and Dan, or pick one or the other with 50% probability? So, the mechanics of implementation are easy, but the design itself is still left to question. Anyone have any good ideas? |

Maybe I'll redo this for all my libraries, since there seems to have been some flakiness recently. |

It should be loaded after the login, and not as a pop up. I don't like to include popups that have no functions in my games, so a clickable verb is best. As to how much should be donated... The donator should be able to choose. If he/she have only 1 dime, then a donate verb for 10 would not be good. |

Problem solved. =) You might want to check out the post I made back in Design Philosophy "Extracting revenge... er, payment". Lots of interesting methods in there. Oh, and at Ron's behest, in my local copy of the payment_methods file, 'CrippleWare' has been modified to 'LiteWare'. I'll post that page as a link once we get a Links section on the hub (hint hint). |
Dan and Tom are Da Men. They make BYOND and all things BYOND possible.
