Now, today at around 8:30 I finished watching the first Star-Trek movie made that hade Vger (I wont reveal what that stands for). I was thinking, maybe the makers of the latest Planet Of The Apes watched it and had the idea for making the "Calima" place named that. What do you think?

I haven't seen either one of those planet'o the apes thingies.. But I do feel like stabbing wildly at something. Vger was Voyager 6th. also, no it wasn't california, on the ship that the main guy was in you noticed in the part that had the cages with the apes before he went through time, there was a sign that read "Caution Live Animals", and when the apes arived on the planet and grew smarter, the other letters were covered by dust, thus it was spelt "Calima" and they knew it as their birth and sacred place. |

Now that I like. Twisted. Was it in the original one, or just the later one? --Tarmas. (S)he should probably go see those movies now. |
I don't know about Planet of the Apes, but I'm pretty sure it inspired Ghostbusters II, with its main villain, "Vger the Carpathian."
Almost irrelevant sidenote: In Fellowship of the Rings, did anyone else feel compelled to yell, "Damn you!" when the the first giant statue came into view? |

But just because the first time I saw it there was a couple behind me who felt compelled to comment on everything in the movie. --Tarmas. |
There were some people like that when I saw it, too. We had to talk extra loud if we wanted to be sure to ruin the movie for everybody.

I was thinking, maybe the makers of the latest Planet Of The Apes watched it and had the idea for making the "Calima" place named that. What do you think? I've seen similar things in other movies, I think, though I can't think of any offhand! I saw the new Planet of the Apes this weekend. I enjoyed it, but two big things stuck out (the first of which would apply to the original as well -- caution, possible spoilers): 1) If you landed on an alien planet and the aliens spoke perfect English, wouldn't you think "Whoa -- wonder why these aliens speak perfect English"? 2) What was the deal with the statue of Thade? I mean, he was a descendant of the apes on the ship that crashed, long after that statue would have been built. Maybe the idea was just "this is what you get for messing with the continuum of time", though Dirk Diggler didn't mean to mess with it. |

I'm reading all the books on it, so far I'm past page 150 or so on the Fellowship of the Ring. Once I read that one I'll watch the movie and continue reading the rest. |
Vger and Calima would be Voyager and California, right? I'm pretty sure Vger was voyager..
