It's very frustrating to get on a Tanks server and find all the teams locked, forcing you to be a rogue on the run with no safe place to retreat to. I'd love to have input from the players, so I've put together a BYOND Poll (Thanks Z!).

How many teams should there be in Tanks?
Instead of voting in your poll, I decided to replay to your question.

I believe that the best direction for Tanks to go(not that i have any right to say where it should go, as ive only played it 2 times) would be in the following direction.

If you play a lot of commercial multiplayer games, specifically action ones, you will notice that the user is given the option to enter a "server" of games and choose one to join. Or he/she can create one for others to join. I think this would be perfect for Tanks to implement an in-game system that handles this, rather than the Run and Join links in the Hub. Also, I believe that 8 per game room would be a reasonable number, I also think a little bit of redesigning could help here. Such as allowing for multiple game playing configurations.
Such as:
1 on 1,
1 on 2,
1 on 3,
1 on 4,
2 on 2,
2 on 3,
2 on 4,
3 on 3,
3 on 4,
4 on 4.

You could have more easier options as well such as Top vs Bottom or Left vs Right configurations.

Dont get me wrong, Tanks is perfect as it is, but this system would definatly improve some things. Another thing i would like to see implemented into Tanks would be an entire system that doesnt use the stat panel at all, but takes advantage of the new client.screen list variable for a HUD.

Those are my opinions and suggestions anyways, take them for what they are worth. =D

Wow, I voted and I was the 6th to vote :), I have a idea taht might be worth looking into. Make it so that out of the 4 teams make it so that if there are 2 locked that the other 2 can't lock the teams or let 3 be locked and always let the last one who did not lock have to be unlocked so like a team lock limit so there is always atleast one team unlocked. :)

Although I do tend to love these sorts of games with lots of teams involved, I do think that there should also be a two-team option (maybe three-team as well, but fair placement becomes tricky). Other handy host options would be maximum number of players (sort of along the lines of what FIREking's getting at, but not quite so restrictive) and max players per team.
Maybe they cannot lock, but the team members vote on a new person joining their team. Or the lock could have this.

Already have the HUD in v26 and will be expanding on it in the near future. Unfortunately I'm having trouble uploading it to the hub. :/

Maybe the "design your own" team option would work best. It would allow for 2 and 3 team games as well as games with many more. I could even allow the alliances that people have been begging for by merging two teams. If someone doesn't like a team, they could split off and start thier own. This will take a major rehaul of the current system though. Right now, Tanks tracks team affiliation by icon_state. :/

I will be adding maxtanks, maxtowers, and maxdecoys per team to the host options long before I actually change the team count.

I don't think this goes along with this post, but since the subject is Tanks. I might as well just post an idea, looking for some feedback from other players and even the designer. I think it would be neat for the leader of a team to have an "alliance" verb. This would propose an alliance with another team in the world by asking the other team's leader if he/she wanted to ally with the sender. If it was agreed on, then the 2 allied teams could go into each others bases without getting shot. Just a suggestion what do any of you think?

PS: I already voted on the poll that Shadow made, I think 8 teams would cause some mighty chaos and chaos rules! ^-^
